i voted piano, but i think it really depends on the person. also, piano isn't the easier instrument to play as well.

i think piano
because it helps with your theory now.
I started with flute then piano and i must say that piano has definately improved by sight reading skills

Yeah, I agree about the piano. It would have made my life a lot easier (for doing Grade 5 theory) if I had started learning piano earlier. Then I would be able to read the bass clef music better!
I started with violin, but nearly everyone I know started off with the recorder.

If you want to learn an instrument the best one is the one you like the sound of best.
You are going to have to like the instrument a lot to be prepared to put in the effort involved in learning.

I started off playing the recorder in a group at primary school! but the first instrument i really played was piano, but am better on the violin! i would have to say piano.
