Hi all,

What´s a bridge of violin treated but not finished? What it must do with it?

Thanks and regards

i suggest bringing it together with your violin to your luthier to have it fixed onto your violin. If you already have a bridge attached to your violin, but want to keep a spare one... I'd just keep it away for a while first. wink.gif

My guess is that it mean unfitted - ie. just a bridge blank - but I could be wrong.

For Liz;
Hi again, the picture below show my new bridge. In the place where I bought it, said me it were a bridge treated but not "finished". I don´t know, but some partners have this one and the sound of theirs violins is very nice.

Oh... then you've to cut the bridge to make the grooves for your strings. Unless you've done it yourself before, or have experience in changing bridges, I suggest you bring it to a luthier. Just check out the closest one to you. Otherwise you might cut it wrongly (e.g. too deep, wrong angle, etc.) and mess it up. I don't know of any other ways to "finish" the bridge though.

That's simply an unfitted bridge, also known as a bridge blank. Usual advice is to take it to a luthier. If you really want to try it for yourself then you will have to research the correct heights and spacings - I guess google should turn something up.

In effect, is an unfitted bridge, I´m sorry for my wrong english, but in spanish it says "puente no acabado" (bridge not finished (literal translation)). I´ve never "fitted" wink.gif a bridge, although I´ve changed someone. I suppose that I will be able to find some plane in Internet.

Thank you, happy new year and excuses for my bad translation. unsure.gif

If you want my honest advice (not that I ever give any other kind) then, don't bother. I doubt the bridge cost you that much. Put it away somewhere and use it if ever you find a luthier. Your friends' violins don't sound nice just because of the bridge - that is just one factor amongst many. Weren't you thinking of buying another violin anyway (or was that someone else?).
