Just curious what time of year new syllabi normally come out - anybody know?

Viohazard is surprisingly keen to continue with grade exams (I think partly to reassure himself that he could cope with studying music in English in future), but Grade 5 theory will keep him busy for this year, because writing English isn't his strong point, and the varied spellings for musical terms in several different European dialects (oops, sorry, languages tongue.gif ) is uphill work for him too!

He's thinking of taking a violin practical in 2008, but that will be 3 or 4 years after his Grade 5, which was done with a different teacher anyway. He spent quite a bit of tim. His violin teacher has no experience of UK grade exams, so he would need to see the syllabus to select the appropriate grade.

Meanwhile, himself has developed a passion for Phillip Glass... rolleyes.gif

The new syllabus is usually out in the July/August of the preceding year.

Good luck with his grade 5 theory. I imagine that it is tricky trying to cope with questions in English and also having to know musical terms in Italian/french/german.
They don't take spelling into account as long as the meaning is clear.

Thanks! Glad to hear that it is summer, not the end of the year - that allows some time to pick and choose.

"As long as the meaning is clear" - well, we can only hope smile.gif .

We tried to study German through a programme on Japanese TV, but for some reason after 2 months, my sons had learned how to say "red wine", "white wine", "vodka", "schnapps", and "put that case of beer in the kitchen" but not "milk", "orange juice", or "may I have some water?"!
