It's a good idea. Actually sounds quite fluent and nice when you pedal bits, particularly the beginning in those 2(?) bars. I got a 29 on that piece for adding pedalling to my piece.

i used pedal and got 29 for it as well!! pedalling in the last section adds a lot of dramatic effect to the piece.

I didn't pedal any of it - I thought it spoilt the crispness of the staccato and ran the sounds together too much. I got good comments for the way I played it, but only 22 marks (he was a low marker, though).

THanks for the comments, but now i'm really confused! biggrin.gif unsure.gif
I really don't know..

SERIOUSLY strange. I got 29 for it too, and used pedal!

it doesn't really matter if you use pedal, it's a matter of personal preferance. Just try to be consistant (ie. dont use pedal each time a certain bit is played, if that is what you've chosen to do).

Well, I do think half pedalling on each beat is good for the rather dramatic theme. It gives atmosphere to the piece, and short crisp pedalling on each staccato quavers is fine. The tone is intriguing! I saw Mr Loo Ban Heng demonstrate the piece at an ABRSM Professional Development Program seminar and he used quite a lot of pedal as well.. but just out of curiousity, why do you disagree, snowballavril?

The way I play it is to pedal on the louder, more dramatic parts - so I don't pedal the introductory semiquavers etc, but do use the pedal in the bit beginning bar 12, and the sforzandos etc, and the end beginning bar 36. You might lose marks if you don't pedal at all, as it is a modern piece of music and quite showmanlike.

I didn't know I could use pedal in that piece..Hmm..gonna try it see how it sounds like!
