Thanks folks. I'm all spent on grade 8s now unless I can find some soul to give me a harpsichord and force me to learn figured bass properly wink.gif

The only thing for it: pick up the clarinet again which has sat in its case forlornly now for the last 12 months and apply myself! rolleyes.gif

Sounds like a plan!

Well done mrb!! I got a B which was a little disappointing but then when I saw this was a merit on my certificate I was happy enough considering I hadn't done an awful lot of work for it. Perhaps I should consider grade 6 and put more effort in!

It might have already been covered in this thread, but excuse me I am a little drunk to search through all of it, so er, what exactly does a practical musicianship exam involve?

Check the syllabus out at www.abrsm.org... basically you turn up, fool about a bit (sing a bit, improvise a bit, talk about a bit of music) and go home again. Two weeks later: voila! wink.gif

Couldn't have put it better myself, Sarah!

mrb, unless you've forgotten EVERYTHING, you could sit Grade 1 this summer (wearing full FRSM robes laugh.gif) and clock up yet another distinction. After all, you were playing Grade 1 pieces in your second lesson. Dare you to learn most of the pieces on the syllabus and when the examiner asks "what are you playing?" give the reply "which of the pieces would you like to hear?".

There's still over a month to the closing date wink.gif

Or, given that this started as Katyjay's thread, and elsewhere she has admitted being 'addicted to multi-instrumentalism' and bidding on (but not winning)one:

Two weeks later: VIOLA!

Sorry, it's really lame, it's just I had to read MrB's post more than once to check which word that was; probably a sign of something, that I'm seeing instrument names and musical connections everywhere...

Apparently as a young performer giving an encore to his recital, Saint-Saens would ask a member of the audience which Beethoven Sonata they would like to hear and then proceed to play it - from memory!

Anyone dare to have a go at the grade 8 practical musicianship? I read this thread with interest last night, went to my shelf (as I knew I had a practical musicianship book there somewhere), and discovered I have the grades 6-8 copy. After taking the grade 8 singing this week (after a break of 15 years or so) i'm all geared up for exams again. Does anyone know if the transposition on piano would have to be with 2 hands or just 1? (I'm guessing 2 but hoping 1 laugh.gif ).

You don't have to transpose, it's simply an option... I did the other option which seemed a bit more straightforward!
sarah-flute
What is the other option? I forget... unsure.gif
