Hi ya,
Just thought I would find out if anyone on these forums is into blues and boogie piano. I love it. I cannot get enough. Although I have been playing the piano for about 6 years, I am a complete beginner when it comes to blues. Around the new year I read an article in a magazine that said that life is not a dress rehearsal so it there is something that you want out of life, you have to devise a plan and go for it. Hence, I have started working my way through a blues tuition book, albeit very slowly. I will get there.
I think it is said that there are so few blues piano teachers anywhere let alone near enough to have regular lessons. The only success I have had in finding one was an online teacher which I found to be unsatisfactory for my needs. I wouldn't mind paying for weekly lessons and driving a few miles if it was for blues tuition.
Bye!

I would think that most jazz piano teachers would be able to give some good advice on blues and boogie. I don't know where you're based, but I came across details of a jazz/blues piano teacher in Clapham (S London) once. Let me know if that's any interest and I'll send you details.

Yes love the blues too! Which tuition book are you using? I have just started using the Tim Richards improvising blues book and it is fantastic.

I'd like to add my voice of support for Tim Richard's Blues Improv book. I'm not that far into it (about half way through the 6th Chords chapter) but it's moving slow enough for the details to sink in and stick in my head. I hope I make it all the way through the book because I'd ultimately like to play jazz which is the focus of his second book.
I do have Charles Beale's Jazz Piano from Scratch, and good as it is, I prefer the pace of Tim's book. Plus, I love his "Lazy Dog Blues" tune in Rockschool's Grade 5 syllabus.

We seem to like putting music into pigeon holes,...this is blues, Be-Bop, Swing, etc. To me, it's music. Yes, I like the Blues, I like Swing , I like Bossa-Nova,..and have played all this and more for the past 15 years professionally. I'd even took some of Mozart Sonatas, re-harmonized it and played it as Jazz (much to the dismay of some purists).

I love it, love it, love it.
Just wish my voice suited it, but it really doesn't, so I confine myself to being a keen listener.

Hi
Just seen this thread I teach the stuff in East London barrelhouse - blues - boogie - stride etc
Most jazz piano teachers won't touch it because it is hard on the hands, particularly the left hand and you need good 10s and other stretches
I have a list of blues stuff I use if anyone wants eny help contact me via my website
