Full Version: Do You Have A Private Teacher?

I thinking of getting a teacher to help me with preparing for the prep test and grade 1 in the summer. I'm really intending to try and get as far as I can with my flute regardless of having to play rather creatively smile.gif

I was wondering what if any questions you wished you had asked your private teacher before signing up with them?

My top priority was someone who could play the piano - for without that skill I'd have to have paid someone else to accompany me in exams and the preparation for the aural tests would have to have been from a CD I guess. Also with a piano playing teacher I get a chance to practice to live music in my lessons. I would expect a teacher to accompany exams at least in the lowest grades.

There was a thread some months ago about a teacher not doing aural preparation and saying the pupil needs to find someone else to do this. That's one to watch out for too.

So I would be looking for an all-in service.
Others will have their own criteria. That's just mine.

I guess the other thing, if you intend to take exams, is to ask if the teacher has other pupils taking exams and which board it is with. You might want to do ABRSM but find your teacher prefers Trinity. LCM give the option of not doing scales (wow!).

Oh WOW!!!!!!! *Becca runs round room for joy* Scales were the one thing I absolutely hated doing when learning trumpet at school. I had health warnings written all over the book biggrin.gif

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.
