There isn't much time to look after three children anymore - what with two hours piano, an hour's flute, half and hour's singing, ... oh and I must find time to practice the recorder... and then there's the theory exam...

I'm impressed at you managing to fit all that in. Do you work as well? I only have two children and only manage about an hour and a half a day.

...22 traditional tunes for beginner Oboists..

anything heartbreaking or mystical?

No. It is incredibly boring with just the usual trad british tunes like Greensleeves, Sky Boat song etc. It becomes very boring once you have learnt as many instruments as I have because all the tutor books contain the same things. So I can play lots of things on several different instruments.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it but my daughter is enjoying Microjazz for Oboe, although it might be a bit more than beginner, I suppose it depends on how fast you progress.

How many different keys have you played the same tune in?
Daughter number one played these sorts of tunes in D major or G major on the cello. After the half-term holiday she is going to learn to do extentions and her teacher said she will bring in the same tunes transposed into A major and E major. Meanwhile on the trombone she plays them in Bb or Eb, while daughter number two plays them in C major on the piano.

I dont know about what keys but I learnt skye boat song on Piano, recorder, flute, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, Clarinet, Double Bass, Fiddle and now Oboe. So I've learnt it quite a few times. And now I have pupils playing it.

And did you have a different book for each?
The reason I asked about keys is that my two want to play together and nothing is in the same key. Jingle Bells a minor third apart (and rather slowly) was interesting but not particuarly festive!

I've just looked at four of my old books and most of the pieces are in the same key as the other books. I think for most instruments C major is the easiest ket to start with. Maybe with the exeption of string instruments.
