I actually just did a google, and I think it *might* be the French term for swing??! But I am not sure, sorry.

Have you tried googling yourself for it? The Dolmetsch site gives some information, and there are various other sites as well which you could have look at.

I think its where you swing notes of the same length to give but keeping within the time that the 2 notes occupy, like rubato, you spend more time in some places and compensate by shortening others.

I think it means sort of swinging the quavers (written as straight) in jazz.
