Full Version: Warning About Xxx Video
Forums > ABRSM > General Music Forum
skylark
If you are likely to be offended by XXX-rated videos, don't go to Xxx Video. Yes I know that some people will now make a bee-line for it, but most people were likely to look at it anyway out of curiosity, thinking that it would be typical spam. It isn't. It contains explicit images which would not appear on any normal website, let alone a family-friendly one. If you're under-age, likely to be offended or just don't particularly want to look at porn images, don't go there.

I wish I'd come across your warning before. I think this once it would be appropriate to put this warning in some other segments of the forum as well like the Cafe.
skylark
Yes you're right, I'll put it in the Cafe as well. Does anyone know how to get hold of the mods over the weekend?

Don't think you can unless they happen to look here during the weekend which sometimes they do. It's been reported and you've put a warning to other users. Best left to drop off the bottom now.

I suppose we could just post a load of fake posts so that they fill up the first page ??
nicki_flute
We could do!
katyjay
Actually, I think Neil is right. Let it drop off the radar.
Andromeda_Aiken
Let's just go reply to all the threads below that! =) Of course, don't go off topic in those.
maggiemay
Well can people please stop replying to the original inappropriate post then ? it only keeps it at the top of the page ! reply to this one if you want ...
Andromeda_Aiken
Yea, I kinda realised my folly after I did. Apologies all!

that's ok, AA sorry, I didn't mean to have a go at you.
Hope you don't mind - I've posted a separate " please don't" post

Yea, saw it. Come on people. It's the 3rd last thread now I think. Let's push it beyond the 2nd page if possible. Hehe.
maggiemay
yay - we did it ! for now, anyway.

For future reference, we do have a means of reporting even when we don't want to open the thread in question. It's the way we did it with the spider incident last year.

Start a new thread, like this warning thread, and report your own post on this warning thread, and explain in your report what's happened and what the problem thread you don't want to open is.

I don't know of any other forum where there's no one in control at the weekend. Most forums have Board Guides who are able to remove unwelcome posts. Perhaps the AB could consider allowing a few established members who are regular users the ability to edit or remove posts?

My page displays 20 threads on one screen so there's a way to go before it drops off my first page. Will have a look to see if I can contribute to any of the threads below it.

If you vote in a poll, it brings that thread back up to the top of the list without actually having to post a message.

I still 'ignorantly' did not understand what you exactly meant, I thought you meant not to click on a link inside the post xxx video!! So I went to the post to see if and how it was signed and what these people said and these photos appeared under my eyes which I DID not intend to look at ohmy.gif what's worse I am at work and I hope they don't track what I have accessed as if they do they'll think I access x rated material at work and will possibly be in big trouble!!!
I think the moderators have to find a way not to allow pictures to appear in posts, but those who want pictures in their post should have the post 'stopped' by moderators until it gets given permission to appear in forum! Surely they can do this as they do it in other forums?

I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it, jojo. If ever it was discovered, they would also see that it was accessed from a link on the ABRSM site and would realise that your explanation was genuine.

I suspect it would have to be "all or nothing". I can't see the mods wanting to pre-view pictures of snow etc, and even if they did, the moment would have been lost by the time they got round to it. They might be willing to pre-view profile pictures but everything else would have to be thrown out with the proverbial bath water I suspect.

I don't know what the answer is. Pictures add a lot to forum life, eg pictures of forum concerts, organs (really sorry, no pun intended), "Find a Picture" game etc etc, and somebody in the "Snow Pictures" thread said what a lovely topic it was....

We've had so much spam lately in relation to what we usually get that I just wonder if something's gone amiss with the validation system, and that if that can be put right, maybe pictures would still be an innocuous contribution to the forums?

Edit: I'm not sure about the technological side of pre-viewing... I have a feeling that software exists which automatically and instantly scans pictures for undesirable content before they are loaded. Does anyone else know about this, as it would be a quick and easy way of vetting pictures without the mods having to spend time on it? Although I imagine the mods know about it already if it exists...

The problem is, most spam threads are quite amusing in many ways and I've never seen one with photos in before. That probably explains why so many people took a glance.
maggiemay
The one yesterday was quite amusing, and we had a bit of fun sending it up.

I think it was the most popular thread yesterday ph34r.gif biggrin.gif

Trouble was - I replied to the first spam I noticed this morning in similar vein - only to then spot the offending one, which rendered my innocently facetious post quite unacceptable - quick dash back to retrieve and delete ! laugh.gif

its back on first page as someone replied to it, lets get rid of it AGAIN!!!
