I got out my Debit Card and list of concerts I wanted to get tickets for and discovered that the Alice Coltrane Gig at Barbican scheduled for April has been cancelled due to her death last month. A great loss to Jazz.

Yes, she died the same weekend as Michael Brecker.

As for Barbican concerts, I really want to see the Pat Metheny / Brad Mehldau gig in July.

Its so scary as Michael Breker wasnt evn 60 yet!
However ....

Aargh - why don't I learn. You've just prompted me to go to the Barbican site to check ticket availability for the Metheny-Mehldau gig, and although it hasn't sold out yet there are no tickets left in the middle block of the stalls and even in the circle there's not much left. I saw EST at the Barbican in November and although I enjoyed the gig I was up in the balcony and it really limited my enjoyment. I love jazz gigs because of the communication and interaction between the performers - when you're that far away you just don't get to appreciate it. I decided then that in future I would only go back if I managed to get a seat in the front stalls, obviously 5 months in advance just isn't long enough!

Enjoy the gigs you've booked - McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea both look tempting.
