Hi,

Could someone please tell me what grade the violin part of Pachelbel's Canon in D is?

Also, as someone who is grade 2, how easy would it be for me to learn? smile.gif

Thanks alot,
LG

Hi!

You'd be OK with the beginning of the violin part, but it gets harder as it goes on, and goes up into 3rd position later in the piece - which you don't come across in graded exams until grade 3.

Maybe you could start learning it now, and add sections as you progress!

Thanks for the advice, that sounds like a good idea!
I want to break away from the pieces I've been learning recently and start playing 'real' music. Most of the pieces I've learnt have been mainly exercises, and though they're fun to play I tire of them after awhile, so starting to learn this would be a welcomed break! biggrin.gif

Shifting doesn't happen till Grade 4 or 5 right? I'm not really sure.

Third position is used in grade 3 exams, although there's only a coupld of pieces that you couldn't play all in first position.

As for Pachelbels Canon - You'd be fine with a simple version that missed out the crazy bit in the middle and the mega high bit at the end.

I am about grade 2 violin and I have Pachelbel Canon, a version which I can play. It has parts Violin 1 and 2 and I am practising it at the moment at home. I want to ask my teacher if it can soon be a duet we can play together. It does go into third position in places but not much and I have been able to cope. The version I have is arranged by Daniel Dorff and published by the Theodore Presser Company. I hope this helps. Enjoy, it is a beautiful piece of music.

Most cellists I know hate that song though. It's 8 quarter notes repeated 54 times! laugh.gif That part I found out from YouTube! Lol! laugh.gif
