I was going to get a Road Angel plus- thenI realised that the Navigator was cheaper, and still had the alerts for fixed cameras. What it dosn't have is the radar detector- but I think by the time a radar is detected its too late anyway.

Yes, mine has the radar detector for mobiles but as you say, generally they've got you before you've got them! Not sure whether radar detectors are legal now or not. Do you know?

Legal in this country, but illegal in most countries in Europe.
In france its illegal to posess one- I've heard of fines up to 900 euros and confiscation.

Hello!
I'm back!
Road Angels are great, I have one, of course!!
How is your Boxster, Ian?
My fleet has changed again but the business hasn't! Though I have to add a Jewellery Boutique

I now have:
Porsche 944 turbo,
Porsche Boxster S,
TVR Chimaera and
don't laugh, no please don't, an E36 BMW 318iS Coupe for running about in.

Hi Nicia, nice to hear from you again.
The Boxster's still going strong, just waiting for the weather to warm up so I can Zymol it again.
What's the 944 like to drive ?

I saw a supercar today on the way home - not sure what it was (and I claim to be a car expert

). The logo on the front said 'VC' vertically. Any ideas?

Sorry it doesn't ring any bells
What did it look like ? Was it new or old ? American or European ?
Could it have been a replica (kit car) with the VC being the maker of the kit ?

I think it looked a bit like a Noble, and it looked pretty European to me. It was a new car.

Are Road Angels actually "safety features", do we think?...
Oddball
Feb 27 2008, 10:09 PM
I think Road Angels are gizmos, yar..
On another note - how much error is usually shown in speedos? I was following a mate of mine today who was doing 60 - my speedo was reading 60 too, but he was creeping away from me. I guestimate it was about 5mph. Is this common?
Mine's a '91 Micra, he's got a '95 or so Corsa.

With my Porsche the speedo is accurate to (+-) 1 MPH at all speeds I've tried against the Road Angel.
With my Panda its about (+-) 2 MPH at 30 MPH and about (+- )3 MPH at 70 MPH.
Whats wrong with having warning for safety cameras (mine doesn't have radar detection) the idea of the cameras is to slow people down at certain locations - not to earn money. In Oxfordshire there are plenty of roads with overgrown speed limit signs and ovrgrown cameras- whats wrong with being aware of the speed limit and camera locations ? It slows me down after all.
Far more dangerous are the drivers who never vary from 40 MPH.

Hi Ian!
Good, good nice to hear you are keeping the Boxster in nice condition!!
The 944 is fantastic!! Got to be the best balanced car to come out of the 80's, it's quick, handles better than my Boxster S IMHO though it's got a few extras whereas the Boxster it totally standard apart from better suspension, uprated suspension, brakes, strut brace etc. running at about 270bhp.

Just had a slow puncture fixed in a rear tyre.
£20 to get it fixed- a couple of years ago they used to do it for free- cheaper than £280 for 2 rear tyres though.

Paying 1.14 for high octane at Texaco. Haven't filled up with V Power for a few weeks due to the unbearable queues at the local Shell.
Just had to put 4 new tyres on mine - ouch.
Did you get a RA or similar?

Don't your fronts last twice as long as your rears ?
I have a road angel 7000 navigator, I don't really use the navigation part though it did get me home from Milton Keynes which is quite an achievement, I always get lost.

Well the rears needed replacing due to wear, and one of the fronts had a cut, so I saw it as the perfect excuse to get rid of all four Dunlops (front ones half worn) that the car came with and replace them with Michelin Pilot Sport. The Dunlops were skittish; by comparison the Michelins dig in, and car is much more surefooted.

I'm on Michelin Piot sports too.
I get 8000 from the rears and 16000 from the fronts

Too early to tell what mileage I get from them.
Just had the oil cyclone replaced in an attempt to cure the long-term problem of excessive oil consumption, which had dropped to 800 miles per litre. The cost was getting ridiculous, on top of the increases in petrol. Fingers crossed that it cures the problem.

I'm not sure - if you think it might be, one of my friends has got an Elise so I think I'll send him the images to see if he thinks they look similar.
Edit: I think you might be right - I did a google search to find out what the GTM kits are that Nicia-Clarinet-Flute mentioned below, and I came across this entry on a kit-car forum..
I was surfin' along on the net and trying to locate any type of kit that resembled a Lotus elise. All of a sudden I stumble onto this Raffo Belva. WOW ! I like it !

I gather (from Google!) that John Raffo was a designer who was very highly thought of in the kit car world, and he sold the production rights to Harlequin. The car seems to be very rare - only 6 in the UK, and apparently even kit car enthusiasts have never seen them at rallies. I don't think the car is currently in production.
Not sure what you mean by "what's it running"

(I shouldn't really be in this thread!
