Which one(s) have you tried?

Which edition are you doing the Kohler from? The Billaudot is heavily edited, and is very unlike the original in several places (the whole of the first page, for example).

The most popular pieces from List B for my students have been the Bozza and the Dvorak. I like the Ravel, but it's an acquired taste, I think. The Caplet is quite difficult to get together with the accompaniment, and the Berkeley is too difficult for Grade 7 (I played it for Grade 8 and for DipABRSM).

But the Berkeley is beautiful! wub.gif I learnt it for Grade 7. I didn't take the exam... but I still learnt it, and played it for an audition. It's a lovely piece. But I suppose it's up to you!

It's lovely, I'm very fond of it. But it's musically harder than most of the other List B choices, and technically the hardest of the lot. The only slight advatage it has over the other pieces is that it's a treble recorder piece, and therefore ranges from F above middle C to the F# two ocatves above.

Yes I definately think the Berkeley is quite hard for grade 7! As soon as it gets to the semis its pretty hard, not to mention the difficult B to D semis at the start, and the fast double tonguing descending scale!

From the grade 7 list B I like Bozza Aria, Poulenc mvt 2 and the Ravel.
The last movement on the Mathias is fun, the 2nd just will never make any sense to me....!!!

I agree with you about the Mathias - I love the last movement. smile.gif

It helps if you hear the accompaniment as well.

Yep, just played along with a recording, sounded much better with it!
