Dvorak: New World Symphony

not sure I've heard the piano version of this ?

Me neither but I'd like to!!!!

Wish I could get a piano arrangement of Mars by Edgar Holst, one of the greatest pieces of music ever written imo.

Also Air on G String for piano- magical biggrin.gif

And there's a piece by Purcell but I can't remember what it's called and I can't remember if it's just for piano....
Devil_Fiddler
I don't really think there's much I can add to those already listed in the way of big classical works, but one piece that really touched me and I've always loved is and old grade 2 piece called Cloudy Day by Christopher Norton. Can't really say what it is but even now, 6 years on, I wtill go back to it and play it.
Also Time by Sandi Thom, which on the album is two guitars and vocals works really well as a piano solo and is so lovely, it makes me well up!!
magicflute
couldn't choose particular pieces but my fave piano composers are Rachmaninov, Debussy, Gershwin and Joplin!

oh yeh and Chopin
marianne
Gotta be:

Prelude from Suite Bergamasque, Debussy

On a Final Fantasy VII theme, 'Holding my thoughts in my heart' and 'Interrupted by Fireworks' are quite cool. smile.gif

Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
Chopin: Tough one that - there's quite a lot! biggrin.gif
Debussy: Reverie
Scriabin: Nocturne for the Left Hand, No 2,3 and 5 from 7 Preludes (probably have got to find the Op. numbers to make it a bit more clear which set of 7! I think it's Op. 17.)
Rachmaninov: Op. 17 Fourth Movement, Tarantelle
Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit - not so much the 2nd one though... sounds awful to say it though, as they should come as a set! tongue.gif

To be honest, it's really quite strange - my favourite stuff used to be all Baroque, then it became mainly Romantic, and now it's gone on through Impressionistic and 20th Century - my taste in music progresses through the centuries as I progress through time playing piano...

(Don't know why I don't have many favourite in the Classical Era itself though! ph34r.gif)

ShArOn_StAr92
debussy: all his pieces, especially claire de lune
chopin: his ballades
grieg: some of his lyric pieces

Very tricky, I'd single out Beethoven's 'Hammerklavier', Bach's Goldberg Variations (not really a piano piece, but hey biggrin.gif) and the Schumann Fantasie as works which I know well and love. Part of the appreciation is no doubt due to familiarity, and I'm sure there's a great pile of music out there which I potentially like even more than pieces I already know - pianists are blessed with such a rich repertoire.

I am quite a fan of Schumann, could you possibly provide any more details about the Fantasie?
