My daughter would like to have some tunes she knows to play on the trombone. When she started the cello she had a couple of books called "String Tunes" and then "Tunes you Know" which she used alongside her tutor book and which contain very simple arrangements of nursery rhymes and children's songs. She can't use them for the trombone as they are in the wrong keys (D major and G major are the easy keys on the cello). I could transpose them for her, I suppose but as I am a bit short of time at the moment, it would be easier to buy something if anyone has any suggestions.

Winners Galore and Easy Winners has about 75 well known tunes in each book. Easy winners comes with a CD you can play along too. My son used this for his trumpet when he first started and still uses it now and he is grade 7! He loves it, his younger brother uses it for Euphonium. We have the treble version but you can get a bass edition for trombone.

[url=www.musicroom.com] is probably a good place to check it out.

both of these books are great but only have a couple of pages suitable for "beginners" before they start to become a bit more involved, so if your daughter had only got a range of say 1 octave or so at the moment you might like to look atTons of Tunes for the beginner arranged by James Curnow which comes with a backing CD

Thanks KixMusic. I have just found the contents page for Tons of Tunes and this is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for so I will order her a copy tomorrow.

Not only does she have a limited range (although she came out of her lesson today very proud of the fact that she now has a range of 1 octave + 1 note) but her knowledge of "popular" tunes is also quite limited so that she doesn't in fact know a lot of the ones in Easy Winners.

We have got two weeks half-term holidays coming up and she wants something "fun" to play also (as she said with a sigh) neither her cello teacher or her trombone teacher ever give her enough work for the holidays biggrin.gif

Thats great! I'm sure she'll enjoy them, I use them in schools for assemblies and such like when my "recent starters" want to perform but don't want to use their tutor book.

Tons of Tunes finally turned up yesterday. (Musicroom sent me the wrong edition first) and my daughter was so excited about it. She was like someone with a box of chocolates trying to decide which one to have first. In the end she decided on Old MacDonald and wants to learn it perfectly by next week to surprise her teacher in her next lesson smile.gif

That's great! Makes me all warm and fuzzy just thinking about her. Hope her teacher is suitably impresed!
