Queen Jess
Hi! tell me if you want another instrument added, sorry if I forgot some!
Annetta
I started the flute when I was 8 so I have been playing for 9 nearly 10 years !!!
Rosemary7391
Recorder, I started when I was about 7. At the time I just viewed it as a way of getting into playing clarinet and eventually sax. I now play and enjoy all 3 and a few others, but clarinet is my main instrument.
barry-clari
Was recorder, at five years old. I wish I hadn't stopped at eighteen.......

Making up for it now though! biggrin.gif
Rosemary7391
Recorder seems to be a common instrument.. stands to reason I guess.
sarah-flute
Violin - don't recall when I started recorder but some months or even a year or so after violin.
sags_3
I played the recorder in year 2 for a few sessions as part of a whole class music lesson. So technically is my first instrument, but started flute in year 3 or 4, learning as a group or pair. Didnt learn much in those primary school years....joined secondary school grade 2/3! Done much better since though!

Clarinet biggrin.gif
andante_in_c
Descant recorder at 9 (nothing on offer before that), treble recorder at 11, flute at 14.
SaxFan
I seem to remember playing recorder, but also trumpet and cornet (not on your list sad.gif )
sneekymum
Harmonica - I was about seven when I tried a professional chromatic one and found I could play anything and so my parents bought me one.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
I was one of the few who never learned recorder. sad.gif *sigh*

All I got was a triangle. Meh. (I voted piano by the way tongue.gif )

july
Flute at age 13, though I played the recorder at school before.

Though technically voice, as I've been singing all my life. I've never had lessons though, so does that count?
piano*singing*lover
I started piano at 15 biggrin.gif !!! Now I have started violin at 17!!! WOO biggrin.gif
hillyb
Recorder - aged 7.
magicflute
i voted for flute but then remembered i played recorder before that! I gave my recorder away to an instrument appeal for African children - which is good but I miss it sometimes!
organgrinder
Accordion was my first instrument.
InvisibleFiend
Recorder in 2nd class. We only did it for about 2 weeks. Started lessons in 3rd and piano 3 months later.
lizbun
I startred piano and violin both when I was 6, and Oboe last september.
idiotmatthew
First instrument - piano. Then when i was in secondary school i started learning recorder for internal school music exams in 1st year then stopped in 3rd year. Now i have stopped piano lessons at uni.
Cyrilla
I agree with katyjay and july - can you add voice, Queen Jess??!

I know I put recorder in an earlier post, but I guess voice must've come first (in playgroup, late 1970s).....
JulieCSM
I don't ever remember actually learning recorder - I just always seemed to know how to play it. I do remember going through my dad's recorder books so maybe I just taught myself.

Anyway, I started violin at 6 and piano much later at 14.

I don't think you can... sad.gif
ben_walker446
I voted piano because officially that was my first instrument, but I messed about on recorder before that at school. smile.gif
Morgan's Munchkin
I started violin at 11, and flute at 15. My parents are rather unsupportive of anything musical, but i wish i had been allowed to learn something from a young age.
Devil_Fiddler
I played recorder first, gave it up after about a year and started the piano the year after.

But as many people have said, technically voice is my first and probably wood blocks/shakers/guiro type things at Musical Minors biggrin.gif
ffliwt
Clarinet was my first i started when i was about 8, then when i was 11/12 i started flute, then saxophone when i was about 13... oboe when i was 13/14, i started voice lessons when i was 14... i'd been playing piano throughout all of this lol but i didn't start piano lessons until i was 15, but after a few months i stopped as it got too much but i'm starting piano lessons again in September.
confusiiiiing >_<
but now i play flute sooooo much (looove flute <3 hehe) that i find it so so so sooo hard to play clarinet >_<
fay
well I played a recorder at primary school, but the first instrument I started learning formally was Oboe when I was 11.
Malone
I started the piano when I was in primary one so I think that was when I was 5 or 6 then recorder at 7/8 then saxophone when I was 13 and flute at 15 (thankfully my prior musical experience made me grade 5 about a week after I started and that has been my main instrument, there are a few other instruments which take a backseat when I'm bust with that...
Reverie
Piano, when I was 7, I think.
Piano gurl
haha im such an idiot. I put piano but meant recorder. *slaps self on head*
heslop01
Piano for 4 years.
celebworld
Piano was mine, though I do have a recorder and beginner book and self taught myself when I was around 9/10. I can't remember how to play it now!! haha I've also got a harmonica, not sure how that works though.
Queen Jess
ok I have just had a brainwave...
since nobody voted for cello, we'll just say that's voice.

(took me a while to come up with that! tongue.gif )
Jessx
Flute!
flute fanatic
My first instrument was recorder, closely followed by flute; which I still play. I also play the tenor sax.
BBTOTW
I started piano when I was 4, then clarinet at 11 and flute at 14!
fsharpminor

Drum Kit

Not on the poll - hardly surprising really... Most people forget us drummers!
pianocelloflute
First came piano (aged 6), 8 saw me pick up the flute, 10 saw me teach myself descant recorder (so I was able to join the Recorder Ensemble, and retain my playing in every group record!), and lots more since!
bobifier
What? No viola?

Mind you, it does tend not to be first, and I didn't do it first, so it doesn't really matter too much... ph34r.gif
