I would be prepared to come. But with the train fare being about £70, I can't really afford it.

If at some stage you let me know your term dates (by email/PM), I'll let you know of any playday dates where you are on holiday from uni. smile.gif

Nice to see some new people coming along biggrin.gif

But...WE NEED MORE STRINGS!

Fellow fiddlers, where are you? Please come and play with us!

If I come, I'll bring my violin, but I'm not very good at it.
Could bring guitar too, but I can't sight-read proper guitar music. Can manage a single melody line (if it's not too complicated) or chord symbols.

I'm /so/ tempted to leave all the woodwind at home anyway as I spend most of my time playing keyboards and woodwind.

Would be good to see you there Teigr. smile.gif

Any guitar music would be of the single melody line sort of thing. smile.gif

Now wonders whether to bring guitar too. If I can remember where I've put it. unsure.gif

Check it for mice when you find it... ;-)

I could take my harp, but that's a lot of strings to tune. Bad enough with 4 or 6....
Definitely like the idea of taking just strings. Or at least, no woodwind.
Are we allowed to take percussion (pitched or otherwise)?

Wonderful! hurrah.gif On the 3rd, I'll be having a chat to meerkat to set the first couple of Harborough playdays for 2008. I'll post the dates on the forum on the 4th. smile.gif
barry-clari
A quick reminder to people that we're five days from the next MH playday, on Sat 3rd. Details of venue are on the thread, or PM me. Times will be 1ish - 5ish. smile.gif
barry-clari
Ooooh, just remembered.

If you have a music stand, it might be useful to bring it along. smile.gif
SaxFan
sorry I can't be there - playing elsewhere sad.gif

as to Italian, one of the nicest I know is in Camberley!! bit far for after the playday biggrin.gif
meerkat
Ignore me....

Just got back from the ensemble meet. Was really good fun, even though I spent most of the time playing an instrument I can't really play and the rest of it playing one that looked silly compared to everyone else's. ;-)

Many thanks to everyone who organised it all.

really? I tried to find y'all (at Market Harboro Methodist Church, right?). And no-one was there....? So - where did I go wrong...?
nicki_flute
Oh no! Had you come far, Nick? (Wasn't there but been on several occasions)

Ah - that's the info I had ... I came from Leicester, so not too far. But disappointed! Where were you then?
nicki_flute
I'm at Durham University now, so a bit far to come! But I live near Leicester smile.gif and I've been to most of the days there. The entrance is sometimes round the back. I promise we wouldn't have been hiding smile.gif
sax kitten
I read this morning that it was cancelled and then tonight the msg was no longer there and replaced with 'ignore me' sad.gif
So I missed it
nicki_flute
Oh...I didn't realise that *confused*
sax kitten
Yes Meerkat left a msg saying she was really ill and sorry for the late notice but had to cancel so I made other plans, and then tonight the msg was gone and replaced with the other I am confused too blink.gif
nicki_flute
Oh, well hope everything is alright..
andante_in_c
I thought I would try and clear up the confusion about yesterday. unsure.gif

Meerkat was indeed unwell, and a side effect of this was that the original booking wasn't confirmed and the church, in absence of a confirmation, cancelled. Unfortunately the first many of us knew about this was when we we were almost at Market Harborough. Meerkat valiantly found us another venue (the small hall which we've used before) so that the day could go ahead.

Katyjay and Barry-clari set off for the original venue just before 1.00 to meet all the other participants and direct them to the new venue. They made the decision that they would wait until 1.30 (30 mins after the published start time) before deciding that anyone who was intending to come would have arrived by then, at which point everyone met at the new hall and playing commenced.

Unfortunately it seems that our new participants got lost in the mix-up, which I'm sure we all regret. It really was a very unlucky set of circumstances, and several people, and especially Meerkat, did all they could to ensure the event could take place.

So, apologies to sax kitten and Nickjones8, who were disappointed. I hope that you'll give us another try in the future. The next one is likely to be some time early in the new year. smile.gif peace.gif

And very many get well wishes to Meerkat. thereThere.gif

That is really bad luck and I'm sorry the event didn't go quite as smoothly as these usually seem to !
Commiserations to all, and especially to disappointed would-be-participants who didn't make it, and to Meerkat - do hope you soon feel better.

No harm done - just confusing! It sounds like everyone tried their best to make it work - sadly, I couldn't be there on time (guitar class to go to...), so didn;t arrive until about 2.50. Keep me posted re the next one!

And I endorse those get well wishes.

That looks about right andante. smile.gif

Lots of thank-yous - to meerkat who found us an alternative hall at very short notice, despite being unwell, and to the seven other participants for coming and making it an enjoyable day.

Sax kitten/nickjones8, I'm really sorry sad.gif - I'll post the date of the next one when meerkat is better. Expect something in the early part of the new year.

All the best for a speedy recovery meerkat. thereThere.gif

All being well, I'll have a chat to meerkat next month to set dates. smile.gif
barry-clari
Have had a chat to meerkat.

Two possible dates for the diary : 20/1/08, and 17/2/08.

If you can let me know availability when you can, meerkat'll book at least one of these two dates, and I'll post a further update on this thread. smile.gif
nicki_flute
Ack, will be in Durham for both.
Ms.Fiddle
I'll be able to get to MH on those dates if the trains to and from Derby are running OK.

Both dates have been booked by meerkat.

Come, play, and shake off those winter blues biggrin.gif

I am uncertain about my availability on January 20th
February 17th looks ok at the moment.

If you are planning to travel by train please note:

On SUNDAYS, until further notice, services between Leicester and Kettering are being diverted via Melton Mowbray due to engineering work and no trains are running via Market Harborough.

For anyone coming by train from the NORTH (Leeds, Sheffield, Derby, Loughborough) there is a replacement bus service between Leicester and Market Harborough. The bus journey times are shown as 25 minutes; add a 10 minute connection time at Leicester in both directions for most trains.

For anyone travelling from LONDON and the SOUTH, the same applies from/to Kettering; the bus journey is 25 minutes with a 10 minute connection time for most trains to/from Market Harborough.

From previous experience catch an earlier train to get there on time and don't rely on catching the expected train on the return!
barry-clari
Thanks for that info eastmidspiano smile.gif

Just logged on to look for details of 17th Feb 2008 event - this coming Sunday.

Is it still happening? Maybe I've looked on the wrong thread?

I'm afraid it's had to be cancelled as there were problems booking a venue sad.gif

Hopefully, when a new date's fixed, it'll be in the Market Harborough Forum Events thread which Barry-Clari recently started.
