Does your car registration matter to you? I got a new car several months ago and I don't like the registration! It's highly likely I will change it. Am I being silly?

My mum refused to buy a car becasue she didn't like the number plate. She said there were too many 4's (four sounds like 'death' in Chinese). Ideally, a number plate should have at least one 8 (eight sounds like 'rich').

A friend of my Mum's number plate has quite a few eights in it, which are supposed to be lucky and someone tried to steal it (the number plate) a couple of times

If it's P155 OFF, you should really consider getting a new one...

My last car had two 8's and no problems. My car now (I only got on 3rd Jan this year) has one 8 and has been pranged already!

I would like J1 LLY as a number plate, but it would probably cost more than the car's worth.
Or maybe I could have L1 DDY!!

At a price probably. Personalised registrations have become very trendy in recent years and the prices have increased dramatically.
For the most valuable go for a pre-1963 dateless registration, not the Irish ones, but a UK mainland reg. with three numbers and three letters. I used to own 849 EGC, but flogged it to raise some money when I was short of work. If I'd hung onto it until now, I could probably have made three or four times the amount

I saw a horsebox the other week with the registration HOR 5E, which probably set them back a few thousand pounds, but judging by the size and newness of the horsebox I wouldn't think they were short of cash.

When we bought the Jag, the salesman asked if we were happy with the registration that would be put on it as he had a few others available from his "list".
I didn't know then (which Andante told me later) that KT??JAY is still available for just about all the number combinations......

Does anyone else get a strange, sad "Oh if only...." feeling when they see a K registered car with a number higher than 626??

Nope, none of them could be registered numberplates.
In the US, I believe you pay a licence fee to keep the licence (registration) plate on your car. If you don't pay, you lose the plate, and that means not being able to drive the car. Sounds like a far better and more visible way of spotting the non-payers, than silly little paper discs placed in the left-hand corner of UK vehicle windscreens.
