Hi I'm taking piano grade 2 on the 24th March and just wondered what pieces people have chosen

I'm playing

A Musette
B The Moth
C The Cat (for grade 1 I played sleeping cat- seems to be a theme here !)

Not doing the exam, but just to say good luck

Thanks- I was going to do it in the Autumn but didn't have time to prepare properly.

Those are good pieces! I enjoyed them with my pupils, although I found group B quite hard for the grade - some struggled to find a do-able piece. The Moth is delightful; although none of mine gave what I reckoned a really effective performance, we had fun trying.

Good luck!

Hi- I’m doing grade 2 on the 20th of March, and I chose:

Musette
Deutscher no 2
Get in Step

Deutscher no 2 is easily my favourite and best piece; Get in Step is hard, because all the staccato makes my hands tense. It’s getting there though, and it’s definitely ok for the exam.

I couldn't get on with the Deutscher- I just didn't like the piece. Easier than the moth though

I would agree with you about the B piece- I started with Deutcher no 2- but I didn't really like the piece and then switched to the moth.

Did you notice that on the ABRSM cd of the pieces the moth is played far quicker than the given tempo ?

Don't worry about the tempo on the CD - they quite often get a bit carried away!
"The Moth" is a great piece - I think all my Grade 2's did it. Go for it with the expression and articulation! This year I am loving "Close to Danger" - what a great piece! biggrin.gif

Really, I looked at the Moth, and I started off doing Barcarolle but hated it so switched to the Deutscher. It's really fun!
Is anyone else doing Get in Step- how are you finding it?

Just wish you good luck! All the best!

Perhaps I'll give it a second look - I don't usually like any C pieces - and not taking exams is a great opportunity not to play them.

I like 2007-8 G2 exam pieces book better than last years (for my taste) and I love Allegro, Grandmother's Tales and The Bee.

And I love last year's Grade 3. But not this year's.
