Ok wow I can take part in this one...

I learnt Fur Elise when I was 9. I was about Grade 5 at the time, but I did skip Grade 4. I managed to memorise it, and I mean the whole 5 page one. I played it at a school residential since there was a piano, and everyone wanted me too. In my end-of-year school report, my teacher had written "it was a genuinely moving performance". tongue.gif Well I don't think it was actually that expressive. I didn't play with much expression then, but the teacher thought I did! I'm going to learn the piece again, simply because of this. It's made me realise the difference expression makes tongue.gif.

I perform in a lot of public concerts. It's usually the Chinese Community ones that my teacher is involved in and all of the students prepare something and play. Please note that the youngest of these students is 4 years old and beginner standard. But everyone still applauds and enjoys their performance! Whereas I myself and other people play much higher standard Grade 6+ stuff, with emotion, hopefully tongue.gif

I have a friend who doesn't play piano, but can somehow play fur elise really fast (the whole piece, i think). But it's not really about speed, you should be able to feel the music, just like other pieces, otherwise it would be like an empty shell, if you get my meaning. When the peformer doesn't feel the music themselves, how can anyone else? But, of course, it needs to be played with some speed as well, or it would be quite boring happy.gif

I think that you should be at least a intermediate player to play fur elise, but it can be attempted before.
