Lixandreth - I know the feeling. Well, nearly. Sociology is my most confident subject, and I'd rather have done a History or Music module in January (not that I think I could have) rather than in June. ph34r.gif

To put a positive spin on it - at least you do have some good solid marks-that-count already under your belt in all your subjects... better than end-of-course-exams-only (bar coursework) which is what all the artsy A Levels were a decade ago (sciences had some modules but all of my A Levels were coursework (in some!) and then a whole bunch of scary exams, all in one short summer! 6-1 exams didn't count at all ph34r.gif)... so it could be worse biggrin.gif
nicki_flute
It could be worse, but how often do you see me being positive?

Congrats on the results Wobby, you beat me in C1.

Don't worry about D1, I've just started studying it and I have to admit that it is pretty awful sad.gif

Hehe, thanks! It's not a bad course to study to a certain extent, just a bit tedious at times! Hehe, but saying that, I certainly prefer Stats to Decision, and that is saying something! Actually, Stats is growing on me! laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

I don't know, I just had a complete mental block in the exam - for example, seeing 'Plot the graph of the image of the number 8 where nodes are spaces and arcs are boundaries' was certainly not the question I wanted to see to begin with! And I didn't quite get what they wanted in Question 2... it should have only been a Bubble Sort Algorithm and I don't think any of us understood what the free columns were actually for! Well, just hope it goes better second time round, because our teacher said it was the hardest D1 paper he had seen in a long time!

But I think it's amazing the contrast between different modules in maths and how one can be so much better in one than another! smile.gif

Anyway, well done to everybody on their results!

The May/June exams are going to be some of the scariest things I have ever done - the whole "your future depends on how well you answer these questions" make me blink.gif

Well they don't really. They affect your immediate decisions, but as for "your future" it's a bit OTT to say that they affect that. Of course this is a perspective borne only from experience. Right now, you won't believe me! tongue.gif

This is what my undergrad was saying when I went to KCL. A levels just don't matter when you get to HE. No-one talks about them. They're just bits of paper that you bring with you on your first day to show that you've done it. After that, that's it.

I think GCSEs and A levels are a lot about 'learning how to learn'.

Thats whats so annoying! I know I could have got 100, but I think it was just one completely idiot mistake ie my inability to multiply 2 numbers together.... Must rectify that in time for C2/M1...

That's the thing that troubles most people close to the 100% mark! The best way to get around it is to get some competition going amongst a few people getting near that mark; makes one focus more on not making those mistakes biggrin.gif. Of course they can still slip through rolleyes.gif.

I've been doing that for years.... I've just now found a couple of people to mark myself against! (one got 99, the other 96) On a mock paper I recently lost 3 marks for the stupidest thing - I added 6 and 3 and got 11 blink.gif

A friend of mine studied biology few years ago got 300/300 in A2. Another friend who is in the same year as me studying engineering got:

Maths P1 - 99%
P2 - 100%
P3 - 100%
P4 - 100%
P5 - 100%
P6 - 100%

One of the Edexcel top 5 students or something.. She also got a clean sweep of first honours at uni. amazing...

Good luck to you all with your summer exams, espcially to those who are in upper sixth trying to meet the entrance requirements of universities.

Not necessarily to the first point regarding people doing less well because of their own fault. A whole number of factors can contribute. However, I DO get what you mean.

I try and remember things in the silliest way possible biggrin.gif. I once knew of an English teacher who got her class to learn something by standing in the corner with one foot in the waste paper basket and telling them, adding that they'll remember it because they'll remember how silly she looked - I work off that principle wink.gif.

It did cross my mind earlier, Rainbow, but I forgot to say especially well done given the ropey start of the school year you've had so far smile.gif.

Talking of getting 100% and such, I think its good to strive and work as hard as you can. If you really want a mark, you can get it. That said, I was talking to a girl at Oxfam today who got 90% in her C1 Maths exam. She's RETAKING. (and I was like, ??!! blink.gif ohmy.gif )

I think it's just because she wants to get higher marks in the easier modules. I'm retaking and i got 84, and theres two other girls in my class retaking, who got 83 and 90.

I got 69/something...maybe 90 for my ICT AS level, which is 3 marks off an A... I know it looks kind of bad, but the subject isn't taught well at my school, and I got the highest mark out of all the people in the school blink.gif In addition to that, I'm doing the AS level a year or two early, along with Music AS level (which I started in January), so I'm also doing my GCSEs at the same time as all of this... So I don't think that was too bad XD I've been told that if I get an A in the summer exams, it'll be a first as no one in the school has ever got an A in the subject, and if I get an A then my ICT teacher will take the rest of the ICT staff out and get them drunk blink.gif lol!

Ahhhh here we go again about feeling bad that you didn't get 100%

Sure it's nice to get 100% that's understandable, or even to strive to get it, but face it, if you got 90 something/100 or something you should be darn well pleased with it. Just think how those who got significantly less will feel if you tell them you got such a high mark. Sure it's probably their fault but you know where I'm coming from.

God, you don't HAVE to get 100% in EVERYTHING. Perfectionism, as good as it can be, can also be an absolutely horrible thing to have. Get the grades you need, and be happy.

AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW BAD YOU FEEL COMPARED TO SOMEONE ELSE! Jeeze!!!

Heavens, you are an angry young man, aren't you? It must be such a burden to carry such wisdom at such a tender age - still, you can always release a little of the pressure by dispensing it to people with a healthy dose of vitriol, eh?

Whatever.

^ That is EXACTLY what I mean. Why people can't be happy with such a high mark I'll never understand, unless they're some freakishly smart person who gets everything in said subject right all the time. I mean for gods sake 90% is hardly shameful. Get over it that you didn't get 100%

My friend retook P1 Maths even he got 98/100.

I retook physics Module 1 three times and at last i still got 96/105 which was ok, but when compared to other ppl i felt that i didn't do that well. My physics teacher told me not to waste time to retake but i really wanted to becos it doesn't harm at all. In that summer i took physics module 2 and very luckily got 105/105
somehow and my teacher said " do you want to resit it this time?".. i was like.... ph34r.gif

Anyway, my advice is to resit it anyway (if you have got sufficient cash!) because you may JUST miss your grade in the end - who knows!? My other friend missed an A in chemistry for the whole A-level by 1 MARK!!!

It's all about your personal expectations, isn't it?
Personally, I'm one of the people who gets disappointed if I get 90-something% - and particularly if the marks are on accuracy issues or things that I should not have made mistakes.

However, just as I wouldn't ever criticise someone who was happy with those kind of marks for, I don't know, not being good enough - because clearly those ARE good marks, it's just that the same mark is not equally good for two people - I find it hard to accept others criticising people who are NOT happy with these marks.

This is simply just another example of people being very different in their tastes and their ways. Just as people who would like to aim for that 100% are in no way insulting those who aren't as perfectionistic, it would be good if those who can let themselves be happy with good, but not perfect marks, could be more tolerant of those who feel they have to aim for 100% - because, for a start, it's often not a very enjoyable way to work, always feeling like you could be doing better and never being happy with your results.

I agree with that, that's said what I wanted to say much better than I could! There's nothing wrong with aiming to do your best and being dissatisfied if you don't do quite as well as you could have done, although it feels terrible at times. Although I hate that the fact that I'm not totally satisfied even though I got an A, if I wasn't so perfectionistic, I wouldn't have even got that.

Same here. Although I am struggling a bit with C2 and D1 and so I might not get an A overall, I'd rather spend my time working to get to grips with them and hopefully getting good marks in those modules, rather than spending ages going over and over C1 for a few extra marks (I got 89 this time, I doubt that I'll ever get more than 94 or so, I just make too many stupid mistakes). Also, if I resat C1 in the summer, I'd be faced with 8 exams over 3 days and that's just too many, especially when I should be concentrating on my other subjects more (I have 4 exams on one day ohmy.gif).

Yes, there might be worse off in the world, but 4 exams in one day is hugely stressful, and obviously means a lot to Emma, even if it seems petty to you.
