I' doing my grade 8 exam in 3 weeks, and in my B piece (Allegro Moderato from Sonata in C by Mozart) there's a whole passage in the 2nd section with mordents. It's written as appogiatura-demisemiquaver but there's an acciacatura written above the stave and I'm really confused as to what to play! My music teacher thinks that it should be an appogiatura, but my piano teacher hasn't said anything when I've been playing acciacaturas... It comes up about 5 times, and except for the first one they're all written as appogiaturas. Has anyone played this piece, and what should I do?

Is this the one from the 2005/2006 syllabus?
If it is then I think I've got where you are talking about. I'm guessing you aren't using the AB exam book but a different edition?
Before I go on do you want to let me know if I'm right?

Yep, it's from the syllabus. I'm using the purple book with all the pieces in (not the anthology)

I did that one.... you mean the thing (technical term) that first appears in bar 17?
I played them all as appogiaturas.
(just noticed you like Jasper Fforde.... I'm starting reading his books too.

Yes that one, and in particular the ones starting in bar 66. I'm confused because there's an option and I@m not sure which one to do!
(Jasper Fforde's great! Which book have you got up to?)

Acciacaturas... I just had to go and try it to remember, haven't played it since the exam this time last year.
I've read The Eyre Affair and The Big over Easy.
(Just noticed somwthing else in your profile... you are exactly 30 years younger than my sister....)

Bar 17 are appoggies, but bar 29 and 66/67 (and similar) really have to be played as accachies . Bar 78 are appoggies again, as are bars 102 and 106. Bar 83 and 114 can be played as an accachie. The ones near the end 141-144 obviously appoggies.
Well its my humble opinion and how I play them anyway

Thanks everyone
Sbhoa, you have to read Lost in a Good book - it's the best one so far!
I've never met anyone with the same birthday as me...

I have that one.... my husband is reading it. I will read it when I've finished the book I'm reading now.
Good luck with your exam.

(got to stay on topic.
