I finally got around to putting Syrinx up though I didn't manage to put the picture up right *grrrr* next time I am near a decent pieces of recording equipment I'll have to do an updated version and compare them.

With apologies for rather thin tone in places and some stupid mistakes

Nicki - you are still a whole lot better than alot of the rubbish that goes on there!! Mainly americans I think getting excited about playing technically difficult things...but badly resulting in a very painful listening.

100% agree. Not necessarily Americans (thinking of some of the vids I've just been watching...) but definitely technical things played badly = ugh.

Besides, if stuff had to be perfect I'd never post anything anywhere!!!

What was the answer about copyright - can we basically put anything up?

I asked the PRS about this before (and may have mentioned it here).

They cannot police every individual who wants to put a performance of something that isn't out of copyright on YouTube so their attitude is that YouTube is the publisher and they look to YouTube for compensation. Thus they were (when I spoke to them) in discussion with YouTube about a fee.

So, according to them, you can post whatever you like to YouTube with impunity - but if you published something which infringed copyright on your own site they might come after you (however unlikely that might actually be).

Well done on your first recording Nicki! I dont think I will play that piece for a LONG time after having 5 professional musicians on BBC Classical Star really criticize my playing when I performed it!!!!

I must agree about some of the people who try to play pieces that are too hard for them! I recently came across a really young girl playing Schubert variations which as a general rule isnt taught in conservatoires until postgrad studies!

The said the first few bars were nice and engaging and after that they said they lost interest. They said there are so many markings which I didnt follow and if I did, they didnt hear them. They also said I was doing the opposite of what the composer had marked in some places . I just sat there smiling and nodding as the cameras were all on my face! ( that bit better not get onto the tv show!)

light-hearted look at duet playing!

This is my daughter (11) singing Ah! Non Credea Mirarti from La Sonnambula. She had only had 3 lessons with her teacher at this point hence the performing the first section only and a couple of breathing errors as she didn't know it well enough.

She has come on so far since then (another 2 months) I can't wait to record her next recital!!

What a lovely voice, she sings with such confidence too. I wish I could sing, alas I'm not blessed

Thanks The best thing is that her (our!!) coach loves teaching her, as she is so motivated, wants to sing opera, it's her passion....and practices well too. Of course there is a little rivalry there too as i am doing my grade 8 in November. You heard her coach singing on the track with her!
