Has anyone got a subscription to this? I'm pondering whether to get one.

Is it as good as Naxos says it is?

I do. It really is worth it. You get access to so many files - I've been able to listen to flute pieces I'm playing, and a whole host of different genres for my music listening paper. The only bad thing is you can't download the tracks, and if you listen to a CD, you can't make the next track start once the track before has finished, you have to click on the track and press play.

naxosmusiclibrary.com or naxos.com?

I have a subscription to naxosmusiclibrary.com through the university at which I work, it's great smile.gif.

I subscribe to Naxos.com for $19.95 per year. You can listen to any of their CD tracks from their catalogue. I find it really useful. They also have CD programme notes, information about composers etc. Not enough info to research A Level essays or Diploma programme notes but useful for information below that level I would have thought.

Quality is what I would call normal PC/internet quality not CD quality. You can get an idea of the service by taking out a free subscription. You can only listen to the first 25% of each track but you will get a feel for the quality and breadth of music available.

The Naxos library is more expensive and better quality apparently, and perhaps a broader catalogue but I don't use it.

Oh whoops, I didn't know there was a difference. What is the music library?
YetAnotherPianist
The main differences are:

i) Only music professionals and institutions can subscribe to the naxosmusiclibrary.com
ii) The sound quality on naxos.com is 20kbits (what they call 'FM Radio Quality') but the sound quality on naxosmusiclibrary.com is 64kbits (near-CD quality) or 128kbits (CD quality, for a monthly surcharge).

There are a lot of smaller labels available on naxosmusiclibrary.com (BIS, for instance, have some great early music stuff), are these available on naxos.com?

I use naxos.com. I think it is great. I usually use it to listen to a piece of music that I am playing or one that I am thinking of getting. I think it is worth it smile.gif

Fantastic - I would really recommend it!

There is certainly some BIS stuff on Naxos.com but they claim 5000+ cds on naxos.com and 15000+ in naxosmusiclibrary I think so I don't know what the difference in catalogue is overall.

It seems that any individual can join Naxosmusiclibrary - just need to pay a monthly sub. Personally the ordinary naxos.com is fine for my needs.

Thanks for all your ideas.

I've taken out a 2 user subscription to the Naxos Musc Library. I'm sure my pupils (and I!) will make use of it.

Hope you find it as useful as I have. smile.gif I just resubscribed to Naxos Online and it is great. When I was at university we had the full Naxos Library, much more expensive. The online system is an absolute bargain at about £15 for a whole year. I'm sure there is more in the Library feature though I guess that is part of the price difference.
