Which instrument(s) and in what context? I'd agree with sbhoa it's sometimes necessary.

Apologies, I got muddled between fora and thought you'd posted this in Viva Woodwind, hence the question.
I use the slide-technique in scales in double chromatic thirds.......
It's by no means a problem if it works well for you. Consider finger substitution as a good alternative though.
