Hiya every1
I know there has been other posts about the 2005 - 2006 exam pieces but i wanted to ask about grade 4 specifically
Ive played through the pieces and most of them are awful!!!! in fact the only one i like is c2 : freeway
Anyone else like others? Is it worth tryin pieces outside of the exam book selection?

My son has started Divertimento (A2), prelude no 28 and the Freeway. He is only 7 so we work on little repetiting sections at a time. He is often limited on his pieces as he is not able to stretch an octave or the pedal yet. When are you planning to sit the exam. If it is before Easter session you could always use the 2004 pieces.

It's always worth trying, that's why I like to buy the CD...so I can hear them all before I buy.

I have a feeling that the pieces in Grade 4 will grow on me. The Freeway will be the first choice all my present Grade 4 students :-)

I think most of them will pick either the Scarlatti or the Beethoven from the A list. They usually have learnt the Beethoven Sonatina by then anyway, so they'll be pleased to have one they can already do smile.gif

I'm not sure about the B list. I think many will pick the Rebikov or the Grieg. There again, I think a couple will go for the Gurlitt.

I'm pleased with the new syllabus, but have to admit that the Grade 4 isn't the best IMO....but you never know, some pieces just get better the more you hear them whilst others you start off liking and tire of them quickly.

Have you got the CD? It really is very helpful to hear them played properly before you chose.

I agree, this is my least favourite of all the new syllabus - the Grieg waltz is lovely though on the alternatives.
