I ought to go for one myself, although I'm not too keen on going since the time he made me look so ridiculous that I had to return later in the week to have it put right.

For a "random" thread, this one is sticking remarkably closely to a single subject ...

My mobile phone isn't a scanner, though I have seen a phone that can have a scanner plugged in and can have things scanned on... blink.gif

Scanners are evil. So are the mobile phones. All such items within the Sainsburys building are baaaaaaaad.

Was it in Sainsburys that you were engaging in epic war with your scanner?

Strangely enough... And the mobile phone! The scnner wouldn't scan, then wouldn't stop scanning, then totally ignored me, then wouldn't scan, then wouldn't stop scanning, then totally ignored me....... Thankfully I didn't have to do a lot with it!! The mobile phone fooled me into thinking it had put the person who called me through for someone else to deal with, 30 seconds later 'I got cut off...' argh!!!!

No these were provided by the company, the scanner checks that the price is the same on the product as the till and the mobile because the phones only ring in the office, but if I'm out on the shop floor working that isn't a lot of use. By the way, the scanners have some variant of a windows system on them. Thats probably the root of the problem... that and that the application requires installing whenever you turn it on and is written in Visual Basic.

in what way is this thread random?

and supposing a good explanation can be found, how do you know that there isn't a more 'random' thread?

I'm allowed to diverge randomlyas it is a random thread. Unfortunately I can only diverge psuedo-randomly but it's a start.
