I started learning to play the piece last Saturday. I have also listened to the recording for the piece. Yesterday and today for the whole journey to work, the piece kept repeating in my head. Does anyone have this kind of problem? I mean any pieces in general, not neccessary Wanderer Fantasy.

By the way, Wanderer Fantasy is probably one of the most fantastic and addictive piece I have ever heard.

I get that problem a lot - anything from the great classics to adverts. Anyone else caught walking round at work humming "shake and vac"?

In fact just reading your post has set the Wanderer Fantasy going in my head again!

I ALWAYS have some piece or other going round in my head - sometimes I end up humming bits of it aloud at which point people tend to think I am slightly unhinged... rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

You are right. It tends to be a piece Ive heard or played the previous day, and the same piece stays in my head for about 3 or 4 days, then another one appears.
One I couldnt get rid of for ages was that E flat Haydn Sonata, thats in the grade 8 syllabus (first movement), but its the 3rd movement (Rondo) I got stuck with.
I also tried Wanderer Fantasy a good while back and it had the same effect! But like the Chopin G Minor Ballade, I can play about half of it quite well, then it gets too difficult for me. So I packed in with it.

Todays 'stuck' tune is the beginning of Schumann's Kreiserleriana.

I always have music in my head & I dream about it a lot, too. I don't see it as a problem, rather a case of loving what I do & being really involved in it. If anything I think it can be a help in the learning process - I'm sure some of the memorising goes on when I'm asleep.

I'm not too familiar with the piece, but I do recall its difficulty - it appears on the FRSM syllabus, and that of several other Fellowship diplomata. Good luck smile.gif.

Once when playing in the band for a school show the main theme tune kept me awake several nights in a row mad.gif as it kept re=playing and re-playing in my head......the musical? Oh yes, "The Wizard of Oz" - "Weeeeeeeeeeeee're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz. Because because because of the wonderful things he does......" AARRGGHH!!!!!

For those who have the condition I described above smile.gif , do you have or consider to have good memory? Just try to see is this have something to do with the memory.

Today I have Ravel's Jeux D'eau in my head on the way to work.

Yes I do have a very good memory - memorising all the formulae etc. is the only thing that scraped me through my degree! biggrin.gif

Yes I do have a good memory... especially for melody. Which isn't always a good thing!

Yeah I get that too..actually I sometimes end up walking to the pulse of the music without realising it, ive gotten some funny looks from people for doing that! I couldnt actually play them back or anything though.. I mean If I have played it from the sheetmusic a few times can usually get the treble parts from memory alright but not the bass.. and thats actually causing huge trouble for me at the moment, its holding me back in some areas.

I love the wanderer fantasy too by the way! smile.gif
