Everyone loves this piece! I have a beginner wants to be able to play it!

What grade is it?

PS. lol I know it's no piece for a beginner

To play at the proper speed is probably about Grade 6, maybe 7. The semiquavers, 'crushed' chords and octaves couldnt be managed at a lower Grade

I played this for my AB grade 8, I had to play the whole of the rest of the sonata too though.

The main theme is not too bad, it's the next section with the spread chords and the octaves that I found the trickiest.

My friend reckons its about G6 level, shes learnt it and she did G5 in the summer (Shes also now trying to learn G8 pieces )

Perhaps your friend would enjoy a simplified version of it for now. I am almost certain that there is one in the Lilac Series if they are still in print.

My Rachmaninov C# Minor prelude, and Chopin Revolutionary Etude, I still have . I got them 45 years ago and the price was 6d (Old pence for those who remember such things)

Yeah Grade 7. I attempted a sight-reading at it today and did ok, but I do know the song. Anyhoos, it is a lovely piece

About Grade 6-7 if you want to play it properly. I first had a stab at it when I had just finished my Grade 4 as a challenge though
