The forums team here at AB are loving the photos too! Thanks for putting them up - it really gives everyone a good idea of the atmosphere of the day. Looks like you all had a lot of fun.

A huge thanks to Skylark for all the hard work that she put into organising the day.

Although lots of friendships were doubtless made or reinforced on the day, could the moderation team ask that you continue referring to people by their forums names when you post on here please - and not by their real names?

We're keen to protect the privacy of all our forums members. We know that several teachers and examiners use these forums, many of whom value the anonymity that a forums profile brings!

Hope everyone understands! biggrin.gif

Many thanks

I've now identified all the soloists and small groups. I haven't identified everybody in the large ensembles but I think it will be obvious who's who from the other captions smile.gif

edit: I love looking at the pictures, I wish we could do it all over again this weekend wink.gif

Without meaning to spoil any fun, should this thread be unpinned? The amount of pinned threads in this forum is quite ridiculous, perhaps another forum is in order for announcements and concert information?

Yes I agree, there's no need for it to stay pinned - I'll ask the mods if they'll remove it wink.gif

Very good idea!

agree.gif
skylark
I suspect this will be an academic discussion, but for the sake of balance, I'll put forward an opposite argument biggrin.gif

For months I didn't ask for the Leeds thread to be pinned at all. In fact I didn't ask for it to be pinned until after the closing date for applications. This was because when I first joined the forums, it was the first forum I'd ever seen let alone joined, and I'd got no idea what it meant for a thread to be pinned. And I thought that the idea of concerts couldn't possibly be relevant to newbies or beginner instrumentalists anyway, so I never looked at them for a long time. I think if the events were in a different forum entirely, they would be yet a further step removed from people who think they're too new or too inexperienced for them to be relevant. There's the danger that the whole forum would never be visited by any other than people who are already regular event-goers. I agree that the events are now "in your face", but that wasn't the case when I first joined, and in my view it's a good thing that newbies cannot miss the events as they are currently displayed wink.gif
Scaramouche
That's fair enough skylark, but I think 5 "normal" threads on the front page is too few, and certain ones can easily be missed if they are not replied to within reasonable time. There are some users who insist on replying to nearly every post and therefore search for them, but others do not. I think it would be a shame for threads to go back a few pages just because of 10million concert pinned threads. I am aware that is a slight exaggeration but you get the gist.
mrbouffant
Is it not possible to have a sub-forum of a main forum, so that all the concert/event threads are collected under GMF in a sub-forum. Would be mighty tidy!
barry-clari
QUOTE(noodle @ Jul 9 2007, 04:52 PM) *

I too think that 10 pinned threads on one forum is excessive. Maybe the solution is a separate forum for concerts/events. The forum concerts and playdays are thriving, and the threads are contributed to regularly so they would rarely be off the first page. If the forum events calendar thread were pinned and had links to all the concerts/events then new members wouldn't miss news of any forum event.

Agree with noodle (and Scaramouche). I (as you have probably deduced!) am a big fan of the forum events, but the trouble with ten or so pinned threads is that the 'non-event' threads in GMF sink to the bottom of the page and may not then get the responses they deserve.

I think it's now getting to the stage that an event 'sub-forum' may be a good move. smile.gif
