Don't know if I'd be any use, but I'd happily be a buddy if anyone needs one, my 2 would be happy to share me and won't need a great deal of performance support.

OK smile.gif I'll write you something (it won't be particularly hard).

Part 4 (including solos) now fully complete. biggrin.gif

......and now Part 3 (except for the viola solo) is now complete. biggrin.gif

Parts 3 and 4 are very 'accompaniment-ish' , if you catch my drift (ie there's a lot of repetition), but it is very important for the structure of the piece, and it gives everyone a chance to participate. smile.gif

Let me know please if you're a clarinettist who would be happier in the lower register only, as I'll need to do an octave transposition of part 3 for you. smile.gif

When the Saints will be six minutes long. smile.gif

I have mapped out a structure for the finale. My arrangement of the Lass of Richmond Hill will be a little different to the traditional version.....more info soon! biggrin.gif

BRING & BUY

There will be a Bring & Buy table at the concert, for any music-related items such as second-hand sheet music, CDs, videos and music books/magazines. Where items are not allowed to be re-sold for copyright reasons, donations will be invited instead. Proceeds will go to the Yorkshire College of Music & Drama. It would be appreciated if you could let me know before the concert if you are bringing items for the Bring & Buy table.

Any unsold items should be taken away by its owner at the end of the concert, unless you wish to donate the items to the Yorkshire College either for its library or for future bring-and-buy sales.

There was a bring and buy at the first Woodford Green concert, after which suepea took the unsold items home to sell on e-bay. Sue should be able to confirm the exact figures, but I recall it brought in about another £300 for charity.

That's a fantastic amount of money from leftover bring-and-buy items sold on ebay! I was thinking there might just be a bit of sheet music left over .... Was the bring-and-buy at Woodford Green just music items or miscellaneous?

< I've just realised Suepea might not see this - I'll email her >

It was in fact £101.25 profit after expenses had been covered, which I sent to the SRP's Walter Bergmann Fund, which was Jo's chosen charity. I believe she took about £90 on the day. There were a few miscellaneous items, but it was mostly music.

Sorry that I haven't got back to you sooner re the strings ensemble. I haven't been able to get onto the abrsm boards for a little while.

The music for the string ensemble will definitely not be jazz. I need to have a clearer idea of who will be in the ensemble before I can finalise the music, but on my list of possibles, I've got a bit of Bach, a bit of Handel, a bit of Faure.... not sure which it will be yet!

if anyone has anything they're desparate to play in the ensemble, I am still open to suggestions, too.

Time for a bit more information on the finale. smile.gif

The way I've changed the original melody means this arrangement of the Lass of Richmond Hill is going to be in 3/4 time, and, just to prove I can compose in other styles, it won't be jazzy! laugh.gif

Somebody who is thinking of coming to the Leeds concert has asked me what sort of music do people play, and in particular, is it OK to play an exam piece wink.gif

The short answer is that you can play whatever you like - the main thing is to choose something which you enjoy playing and would like to share with other people. This might well be an exam piece - in fact if you've an exam coming up, it's a very good opportunity to get experience performing an exam piece in public. On the other hand, some people like to take the opportunity to get away from exam pieces and play some of their favourite music, which could be anything from baroque to jazz. It's entirely up to the individual smile.gif

I've also been asked if it matters that the piece might be considered to be too easy and basic by more advanced players. The answer to that is that it's definitely not a problem! I'm sure I must speak for other concert goers when I say that as an audience, we appreciate different performances for different reasons. Of course advanced playing is wonderful to hear (I'm really tempted to take up the flute after hearing the flautists at Leicester ph34r.gif biggrin.gif ) but it's also GREAT to share in the triumph of a beginner player who has taken the plunge and made their first public performance smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif It doesn't matter that the piece is a Grade 1 piece or whatever - it's just good to be able to share the pleasure of music-making with an adult who has discovered music for the first time or returned to it after a long break.

It's much better to play something relatively easy that you're comfortable with playing, than to tackle something difficult and struggle with it. And in any case, nice music doesn't have to be complex - I still enjoy playing a piece that is probably pre Grade 1, just because it's lovely music smile.gif

sarah-flute
laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif no - bit hard I'm afraid (plus I don't own the music - I was looking at thomxxx's copy!) - the ones I own are Sunstreams, Sunday Morning, and Spiral Lament - Spiral Lament is the one I've done the most work on, don't know if I'd have it ready by June though...

Don't rely on me for Ian Clarke but you never know......... unsure.gif
