My new flute's name is Polly, who is now married to Fergus the headjoint.

Then I suddenly realised that I never named my Clarinet after I bought it last November. I think he's a boy. So suggestions welcome!

I don't name my instruments - or even my pets (don't have any at the moment but the last was "called" Big Rabbit and we have had several "called" Fish) - but then I do have three children...
Thinking about this now I should call my flute "Flute".
And before anyone asks, my children are not called Boy, and Girl 1 and Girl 2,..... (often)

I name everything! Pets, instruments, domestic appliances.....
My piano is Dobbin as he is a hardworking workhorse of a thing, my basset recorder is called Fred, my soprano recorder is called Eric, my treble is usually called Mate my sopranino is Little Beast although I love it really. I have a large collection. A full list would just be embarrassing.

My daughter calls her piano George. Ive no idea why. Its a new Kemble Oxford.
Mine would be more suited to George, as it was a George Rogers (1971), later taken over by Yamaha.
I wont tell you what I call my organ.

Well my youngest calls her flute flutey and the Saxophones are Beast 1 and Beast 2. this is mainly because they live with my parents as my other half forbade them house room (too many instruments). We have never confirmed their existance but he must be a little suspicious by now

I think (for me at least) my string instruments are more likely to end up with names, even though I'm beyond compare more flautist than string player... much as I love my flute, it's just tentatively named Pearl after the make, and I would upgrade it tomorrow given the chance (well, at least try others out and see) though I love it whereas, for example, my fiddle is an old and beloved friend even though I don't play it that well, and the thought of selling it would be a huge wrench.

My plastic regent clarinet is called Squeek - it named itself as it was the 1st thing it said to me!. My Bass clarinet is Sally in memory of my Grandmother (I bought it with the money she left me in her will). My Eb clarinet is called Squeeky (Squeeky 2 if we are being formal as it's my 2nd Eb). My husband had one called 'Samson' when he was at Uni. We had one of his offspring around for a while, called 'Kenny'. Prizes for anyone who can work out why (football connection).

I think we got rid of him after No 1 son grabbed hold of one of the trailing 'babies' and pulled the plant pot on his head. He still bears a small scar.
My flutes don't have names, but are known by such abbreviations as the Yammy, the TJ, the Powell and the Mura.

I just get vibes from him. I dont know. He's an old Rudall Carte and Co Clarinet and if he were human, I could just imagine him sitting in an old arm chair in the corner of the room dinking nips of whiskey. He would also have a moustache and a monocle. He smokes a pipe and forever smells of tobacco. But always smart, with a waistcoat, with a pocket watch. He drives a Bently and talks about his time in the Navy.
