All the new members seem to be flautists!... all I can manage on the flute is anything within an octave of C major!

I think my user name's fairly descriptive of who I am - but now that my membership is finally validated I thought I should say hello!

I'm a mezzo-soprano which is my 'main' job - then I teach singing as well. Bassoon comes next - they used to be joint first study, but then singing took over. I don't do much bassoon teaching at the moment -but I'm going to be doing some more soon.

Then I teach the recorder, both to individuals, and to whole classes of years 2 - 5, part of the government's 'Wider Opportunities' scheme. I love the recorder - but have never really done much with it. I've decided though, that if I teach it, then I should be able to pass grade 8 - so I'm going to do it at some point fairly soon - probably in the Autumn term now though.

And that's me. Well, a bit of me anyway.

Welcome, and good luck with the recorder Grade 8 when you go for it. I did the same two years ago.

Great to hear of others doing Grades in Recorder ....I live in Northern Ireland and unfortunately over here there isn't much interest in the instrument - it tends to just be a tool in primary schools for squeaking out tunes like "twinkle twinkle' etc and learning the basics of treble clef etc...

I on the other hand LOVE the recorder....I taught myself and then sat my Grade 8 when I was 17. I got 128 but would have got a distinction if I had just learnt my scales (the shame 9/21!). I then concentrated on the instrument at Uni doing my degree and wish that there were more opportunities here for people who play the instrument!
