Hi vio-fiddle-a
sorry I can't help you with your query as I only play violin and not viola. If you are at grade 5 though you are probably ready for something a bit more 'upmarket' than the beginners ones lower priced ones....
A suggestion would be to actually go to a luthier/specialised shop (if you have any not too far from where you live) and try them out (they will let you try them, most let you take them home for a few days too so that your teacher can also advise). Where do you live? maybe some of us can advise if there are any shops in your area? Also I suggest that you post this on the viva strings forum too where more or less all string players 'pass by'/'lounge around'.
At the end it also depends on your budget what you will be able to buy.
Good luck and welcome to the forums

Jojo is right, it does depend a lot on how much you're able to spend.

I'm going to do my broken record impression and say do consider Gliga violas. I have a Gliga Gama which set me back (including bow and case) about £500 pounds, and it's a real gem and sounds like it should have cost far more than that.

Does anyone know much about the gliga gems, as i think they would more suitably fall into to this price range? blink.gif

I have a Gems violin with which I'm really pleased.

Have a look on the Viva Strings board, we have had several discussions about instruments. And do a search there for Gliga to get others' views.
