I will be teaching a young girl the flute soon and wondered if anyone has got any advice on where to start?

She has got a flute tutor book and believe she has started learning the fingerings of notes.

I gather the student you are writing about here is a new starter/beginner?

Are you a teacher with lots of experience? Have you taught complete beginners before?

Lots of questions I know, but if the answer to the last two is 'no', then do take very careful and in-depth advice from exprienced teachers of the flute - preferably from those who do take on absolute beginners, because not all teachers do.

Teaching anyone a musical instrument from scratch is a lot more difficult than you might expect.

The answer is no to both of those qs, but it is not really proper teaching I will be doing.
The girl is not really looking for a proper teacher, she just wants a couple of lessons from me. The parents asked me if I could take her for a few sessions of about 10 mins each. I will probably just hear what she can do already and teach her some more fingerings of notes. Also, could go through a tune a day stuff with her.

There is no money involved, it's just a bit of help I will be offering and checking to see if she's doing things right etc.

She already plays another instrument, so she knows a bit about music.

Never thought I ever teach anyone.
