Steeleye Span : well now I've got 'All Around My Hat' going round and round in my head.....

But I guess that should really have been said on another thread here!....

They have recorded rather more tracks than that one of course, but unfortunately that's the only one most people would know! smile.gif

I like Kate Rusby too !

My favourite song is "I'm stretched on your grave". I know it's a bit morbid, but I've played it over and over ph34r.gif .

Many of those already mentioned but would also add:

Joanna Newsom (Her album Ys is a work of genius IMO!)
Espers - particularly second album
Joanna MacGregor with Britten Sinfonia, Andy Sheppard etc - Moondog Matinees (although perhaps not strictly "non-classical" smile.gif )

Did you see Joanna MacGregor etc doing the Bach - meets - Moondog concert at the South Bank last year ?
sarah-flute
Who or what is Moondog? I keep meaning to ask......

A blind NY street corner (for a time) singer.

Louis Thomas Hardin (1916 - 1999). prolific and highly talented musician and composer, much influenced by native American Indian music. Some of his apparently improvised compositions are in fact highly intricate.

Oh right! Cool smile.gif

Oooh yeah! biggrin.gif

I like so many bands that trying to think of them all is impossible... REM are a solid favourite though.

Woohoo! I love REM; they're all I listen to at the moment! I was shocked that my friends didn't know who they were though! Anyway some others:
- Sigur Ros (I've talked about them before- Planet Earth theme tune (Hoppipolla wub.gif ))
- T-Rex
- Dire Straits
- Razorlight
- Snow Patrol
- KT Tunstall yay.gif
- Queen
- U2
- Elton John
- Gwen Stefani
- Greenday (though I like their old stuff better.)
- Coldplay
- David Gray
- The Proclaimers!
- Thin Lizzie

There are loads more! I liked all the songs from 'Life on Mars' as well! I like a mixture really...

Crumbs, where've they been???

I remember when "It's the end of the world" was used for a film, and loads of my friends in school were like "wow, this band is really good" and I was like "um, yes, of course they are, where have you been? this song is ancient!" laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

Exactly what I said! I've always known who REM are (my mum and dad have good musical tastes!). laugh.gif , that's funny that your friends didn't know who they were either. Most of my friends only listen to chart music; they cannot 'broaden their musical horizons!' laugh.gif

My bro started liking them around the time of "Out Of Time" when I was about 13, and I've been hooked ever since smile.gif

Most music I like is 'Classical', though I guess it depends how you define it. As for Jazz, obviously Beny Goodman, Artie Shaw etc., and of course Miles Davis. Coltrane and Shorter I can take in small doses as well. On the pop/rock scene I'm not a real fan of anything. How do we class the Beatles wub.gif for example.

And of course, there is various music we may or may not call 'Classical". What about the wind band repertory. What about all these things by Wedgwood, Norton et al. Sorry, getting philosophical here, but it's an important point.

Pop, surely? Classic pop music - in the best sense of the word.
