As long as I've been on these forums I dont think I've seen one non-"classical" music thread...
So I thought I'd make one myself!
I wasn't sure whether to put it in the Cafe or not.. but as it's musical, here it shall stay!
Basicly.. talk about anything regarding non-"classical" or "pop" music!
I would be interested in hearing about which bands, artists, singers, girl and boy groups you all listen to or are part of and what type of music (e.g. Indie, Rock, Country etc.) you listen to for enjoyment!
So to start things off -
I listen to a lot of rock and Indie. e.g. kasabian, razorlight, the klaxons, Lostprophets, Panic! at the Disco, Fall out boy, All American Rejects, Jet, Feeder, etc. etc. etc.
My recent favourite are The Fray.
And I can't stop singing Grace Kelly by Mika. (it's really bugging me now!)
Having said that I also like the odd club mix like Miricle by Cascada.
I also like the golden oldies like The Beatles, especially Bull Dog and I love the sound of the Beach Boys...
I'm not a great fan of rap or HipHop.
But enough about me, what about you?

I like grace kelly too! I love the beatles and the beach boys.
Bands/ artist I listen to a lot are, to name a few:
rufus and martha wainwright, Joan As Police Woman, jeff buckely, tim buckely, john martyn, joni mitchell, nick drake.....I love Joni and Nick they're my two favourite artists! Also recently I've been getting into Sandy Danny, and thomas leeb!

There must be a film out at the minute with Queen in it somewhere as one of my 8 year old students came in raving about it!
At the end of the lesson I played "Don't Stop me Now" and she sang the whole thing

Brilliant stuff!
ELO, Paul Simon, Kate Bush, The Killers, Motorhead, Scissor Sisters, Gorillaz, Faithless, The Prodigy, Beatles, Dire Straits, RunDMC, New Order, Greenday, lots of 60s/70s, Rock, Bluegrass, Traditional Irish
In no particular order of preference, and it could go on and on!

I listen to stuff that teenagers/pre-teenagers listen to, but I don't know that many songs. I've got nothing on my MP3 player compared to everyone else.
My faves are -
Pussy-cat dolls (beep, doncha, buttons)
Avril lavigne (together, who knows, don't tell me)
halloback girl (by gwen steffani)
fihgting over me (by paris hilton)
I also like things that my dad playes when he playes along with the drums, like Jazz and Pop(the Beatles)
My older brother listens to a lot of metal stuff, and I can't say it's my favourite even though I don't hate it that much.

On the grounds that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, here are some of the original artists/composers & writers (other than me) for the songs I play(guitar) and sing at folk clubs (you will notice that they are not all what you would normally call folk):
Eric Clapton
Queen
James Taylor/Carole King
Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer(Frank Sinatra)
Randy Newman
Jimmy Buffet
Pink Floyd
The Eagles
Brad Paisley
Weird Al Yankovic
Weird Al Yankovic/Don MacLean
Fred Wedlock
Instant Sunshine
Richard Stilgoe/Peter Skellern
The Beatles
Buddy Holly
Chuck Berry
Bryan Adams
Billy Joel
Jake Thackray
Neil Innes
Jim Croce
Duke Ellington
Hoagy Charmichael/Johnny Mercer
Tom Lehrer
Michael Flanders & Donald Swann
If you were to add in the songs for the last band I played Bass guitar in you could add another dozen or so, including Status Quo and Chris Rea!
Given that I'm currently spending several hours a day playing Mozart, Chopin, JS Bach, Debussy, Gershwin, Shostakovich and Joplin and the CD currently in my car CD player is of John Irelands piano music, I think you could say I have a fairly eclectic taste in music!

Ooh ooh ooh!!! I like this thread!!!
OK, things I am really into at the moment... I absolutely LOVE all the old Rock classics. Led Zeppelin is an absolute favourite of mine, I love Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir in particular. Along those lines then I am a huge fan of British music from the 70's onwards, everything from The Clash to Queen to The Who to.... well everything really!
Keeping it in the same mood, I like SOME modern pop music today, like Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Coldplay (although they've sold out recently). But I also like music with a happy upbeat mood like The Feeling, Mika, etc. Gosh, there is so much I like!
My anthem would have to be that one by the New Radicals though... 'Don't let go, you've got the music in you', that one? That's my 'battle song', all my friends had one and this one would get me through tough times like exams or writing a tough composition...

It was
originally the Bonzo Dog Dada Band, but the third word was changed to Doodah because people didn't realise that Dada was an "anti-art" movement formed by Hans Arp in 1917. It was the precursor of the Surrealist movement, which was formed by the poet Andre Breton, who had himself been a Dadaist.
