Hi I was wondering if anyone else out there had jumped straight in at grade 5 for any instrument. I have been playing the clarinet for 3 years and am doing my grade 5 in March, but I haven't done any of the previous grades. Is it ok to start at grade 5 or will it be too difficult.
Thanks for ur help!!

I did grade 2 clarinet 5years so i dont remember much about. Im doing my grade 5 in january and it feels like my first!

Its a big jump but your teacher must feel your at that standard so as long as your also confident with it u should do great!

of course its possible to jump straight in at grade 5 i did it 2 years ago and am now preparing to do my grade 8. if ur teacher thinks ur capable then go 4 it! I hadnt done any grades as previous teacher didnt see da point but the teacher i have now encourages all her pupils to do them! I agree with her as it is very rewarding when u do well!
hope this helps

Hiya i shoulsnt worry, i've been playing about 5 years and have never done any exams (due to bone idleness) and am going straight onto grade 6.
As long as you feel your ready then thats all that matters.

When i took my grade 5 clarinet a few years ago...i had never taken any previous exams before. Your teacher would not enter you if she didnt think you were good enough, so go for it and give it your best shot!
If it all goes wrong...(which it wont) there is always another time! You ahve till march ....... enjoy every minute of your practice, make it worth while, life is for showing what you can achieve! Go for it! You wil be great!
Good luck

You'll be absolutely fine and if your teacher feels confident about your technique and performance you'll pass with flying colours. The only thing would be exam experience - make sure you know what to expect and don't forget things like oral exams are really important! Good luck! xx huh.gif
