Wow Hannah that's amazing - 141 is definately a big achievement at any grade, let alone grade 8!! I took my grade 8 piano on the 12th July, but haven't had the result back yet. What was your mark breakdown? I'm really anxious to know my result - when did you take yours?
Jack.

Wow - which piece did you score 30 marks for hannah? I know what you mean about the aural - grade 8 is such a big step up from any of the other grades - so 16 is very good.

It is really excellent to get high marks especially in grade 8 . Hannah , Congracts and you go for diploma if you have already passed your grade 6 theory. Good Luck in all your future ventures God Bless

You don't need grade 6 theory to do a performance diploma; only for a teaching one.

would grade 7 or 8 do equally well, or does it have to be grade 6?
likewise, if you've got grade 6 theory, do you still have to have taken grade 5 in order to take, say, a grade 7 practical exam?

Ai.......one more case that piano consumes a human lifetime.
One more person losing most of his time on piano --- practising for many hours everyday, repeating some old songs again and again which in fact they are already played by others millions times.
I do play piano but I strictly limit time spending on it. Say, 30-60mins. There are many more important things to do, for myself and for other people.

Grade 5 or above counts as ok for the theory requirement.
If you have 6 or above you don't need to have done grade 5.

I only got to Grade 5 theory and didn't get further than thinking about Grade 6 cos its such a big leap up. But I might be doing A Level music next year, in which case there's not a lot of point.

Hi,
I was the person who on another post complained about the Piano being a light touch and that I should have done the scales first. I thought I did quite bad in my first Piano Exam (Grade 3) but I got my result tonight and I have passed with merit (125/150.) Hooray!
Thanks to all the wonderful posts I read before and after the exam.
Regards,
Craig

Well done to everyone else btw.
Hey Craig,
Which pieces did you play?

I passed!!!!! with merit!!! I got 124/150 in my grade 3 piano exam, the first thing I said though when I read through what the examiner said though, was 'you can't GET dynamic expression on that piano!' so I was a bit disappointed because if it was a nicer piano I might have been able to get a couple more marks!

Hi Lucy,
I played -
A3: Allegretto by Hook (this song drove everyone mad in the house!!)
B3: Study in A minor by Mayer (I messed up the middle part though during the exam)
C3: Tango III by Seiber (I absolutely love this piece and have added it to my own playing pieces.)
What did you play?

Craig

Craig,
I've learnt A1 the Polonaise
Lullaby by Grechanov-'scuse spelling
Clouds and the Tango-I love this one.
I'm not sure wether to sit the exam in the autumn/winter or maybe skip it. I 'm worried the pieces are going to get a bit stale by the time it comes around.
