Full Version: Hi From Will And What A Great Resource!

takeabeat
I really just wanted to say hello, before annonymously 'jumping in' to future posts. What you might like to know is that I'm returning to the flute after a 25 year gap. blink.gif I just wanted to comment that whilst this is possible; and would add that I've invested many hours during the last month to get up to speed, it's not a strategy to be recommended.
I really loved the flute and spent many hours playing each day. All I can say is that life got complicated. I discovered girls and started working in the film industry and before I new it, I had new circles of friends etc.. After a while it dawned on me that I hadn't picked up the flute in a very long time. My poor articulation and rusty fingerwork became depressing. Not being sentimental, and wanting to raise some cash to buy a movie camera, I sold my flute - a faithful gemeinhardt! A pity really, not selling the flute, but stopping playing.
Anyway, here I am. why did I start again? Well my daughter expressed an interest in playing the flute and after considerable effort in tracking down a curved head trevor james, I thought, just how hard can this still be.. well now I'm addicted again. What I will say is that I this board has been an excellent resource in helping think about instruments and raising issues about technique etc. Everyone is obviously enthusiastic, so keep it alive.
For reference, I bought a Miyazawa MS 95S in MINT condition on ebay. It only cost four hundred pounds, and guess what - the seller was giving up! It's the best investment I've made in the last 25 years and has amazing, beautiful rich tone! party1.gif

Welcome smile.gif

Miyazawa flutes are great; I have just bought the 402 model (a little bit more than what you paid ill.gif ).
It just goes to prove that there is good stuff on Ebay.

Well done for picking up the flute again after 25 yrs.

Thanks to Lizbun, Malone, Flute fanatic and Noodle for your welcome messages. I hope to become further 'acquainted' in due course.

Flute fanatic - I believe I saw a similar ebay listing for the 402, which has the all silver body. I would be curious to know how this sounds alongside the 202 (which is basically the same spec as the 95S). Does it have the same headjoint as the 202, or did you go for and upgrading to the head?

flute fanatic
Hi,
I bought the open hole version of the 402, solid silver throughout (including head), with the new brogger system (BR PA 402 RE).

PA 202
Solid (92.5%) silver head. Silver-plated body tube and keys with French style pointed key arms and pin-less left hand mechanism.

The difference is that the 202 has a silver plated body and keywork, whereas the 402 is solid throughout (not counting the keys).

Happy Fluting biggrin.gif
Bye.

Welcome Takeabeat.

Snap! I've just gone back to flute after a 20+ year gap, having sold my faithful Gemeinhardt in my impoverished student years. I've got a very basic Yamaha now, nothing as nice as your Miyazawa, but planning to upgrade it if I can get to grips with fluting again properly! flute.gif

Even the basic 211 is good (says a Yamaha fan wink.gif ). I'm sure at least two people on here have got to grade 8 on theirs - I did gr6 OK, and was doing 7 on mine when A levels got in the way and I gave up for a few years.

Welcome to all the new / returning flautists, and good luck (where is that smilie with the four-leafed clover??) - there is so much beautiful music to play....and you get to use this cute little fella : flute.gif

Well, I bought one smile.gif and had my first lesson on it flute.gif
It's all my husband's fault - encouraging me to get the flute I liked best and making my try more expensive ones than I would have done if I had gone shopping on my own. But it is very very nice.
