Hello, I am about to teach the Chopin Mazurka in B flat list B Grade 7 to one of my pupils. I would like to know please, what other teachers would recommend for the pedalling of this piece for the main opening theme.
Should you-: 1) Pedal straight through the bar and lose the semiquaver rest in the right hand between the quaver and semiquarver notes? ( most editions I have looked at seem to do this) or
2) Put the pedal down after playing these two notes?
I have got a little confused as on the ABRSM Cd the pianist seems to be putting the pedal down after the first beat which seems to go against the advice in the editions I have looked at. I also personally think this does sound rather dry. What are other teachers advising their pupils to do?
