Hi everyone,

I have been offered places at the junior departments of both RAM and RCM for Sept - which do you guys think is best for juniors?? I think I may go RCM as I was offered a place in my audition itself, & tne director really liked my playing - any thoghts??

Is anyone else out there @ a junior conservatoire, or did anyone audition last month??

I auditioned last year and didn't get in, but I have a friend who's at the academy and she's really enjoying it! I personally liked the atmosphere of the college better, and the people were more friendly there.

We looked at both RAM and RCM when considering Saturday music school. The atmosphere for us was much more preferable at RCM - friendly, purposeful but not pompous. My daughter is in her fourth year and still absolutely loves it! Choose the one that feels right for you! And good luck!

I don't know about either, but choose the one you like best!

Personally, I prefer Junior RCM - at least, for teenagers - so many performing opportunities, and their orchestra is in a different class(IMO) . For the younger students (7-11) I think the RAM looks after them better, but I see that won't apply to you.
Good luck - I'm sure you'll have an amazing time and make loads of friends. Sat will become your favourite day of the week biggrin.gif

Don't forget both Trinity and Guildhall have Junior sections too...I work in the Junior Dept of Guildhall...so perhaps look at those two as well before you decide.

The very talented 15 year-old son of a friend of mine recently auditioned for Junior Academy and Guildhall. He was told by RAM that he could continue learning cello with his current teacher. They then told him that although he was the best they heard, he now had to change teachers and take the whole package there. He has ever so politely declined their offer and will be going to Junior Guildhall instead...

Hi, I am probably posting to a slight old thread and also off-topic, but could someone give any advise on what level is expected of students for entry to these junior departments?
Thanks!
