pablodoom
I've just joined this site and it's been a great help so far.
My name is Paul and I've been plying piano for 10 yrs although after I passed grade 1 practical & theory I gradually stopped having lessons.I continued playing and producing all sorts of music using synths, samplers, computers and software like Reason.

I started teaching myself theory a couple of months ago beginning at grade 2 and I've done quite well.I got half way through the exercises and then treated myself to a lesson and got it marked.I made some silly mistakes but on the whole I did ok! I have been learning the grade 4 pieces and that's going quite well too.

I am under no illusions that I can go the distance without regular tuition but at the moment money is tight and I can only afford the odd lesson.I think soon I will be able to manage an hour lesson every other week.

I recently booked myself in for the grade 2 theory exam which is at the beginning of June. I'm not too nervous and am looking forward to it apart from the thought that at 37 yrs old,I will be sitting along side a few 8-10 yr old children!( a humbling thought!). That aside I am fairly confident only because I have put many hours into my study,I really enjoy it and once I've finished the course work i'm going to do 2 or 3 specimin papers of last years exam.

So,that's a little bit about me,so I'd just like to say-Hello to all on the forums!

I know it sounds strange, but with theory it became like a crossword puzzle to me; meaning theory can be quite fun (not too fun though).

Good luck with your exam in June.

Hello Paul and welcome smile.gif Nice to have another person who enjoys Theory - I started Theory as an adult as well and love doing the past papers, they're a bit like doing puzzle books only more useful biggrin.gif I'm planning to do G3 in June. Be prepared to be sitting next to one or two 5 and 6 year olds as well ohmy.gif

Haha, don't worry,I'm already preparing mentally for sitting next to the toddlers! I sometimes wish I'd done all this when I was a lad but then again, lots of children find theory a chore and need to be moaned at to do it,whereas when you're a bit older, studying can be lots of fun! Good luck with grade 3,hopefully I'll be taking that in November,if I pass G2 that is!

Welcome fellow theory lover. I think its far better than crosswords or soduko. I did my grade 5 in March and really enjoyed taking the exam and all the work leading up to it. I wish you well for your exam in June.
