Hi i'm 13 and i'm taking my grade 4 piano this year. I have had piano lessons for a year. I can play some grade 6/7 stuff from memory . But there are a few things i am worried about:

1) sight reading, i have no problem with both hands seperately but i cant really read both clefs at once.

2)singing, i know that i cant sing in tune although i used to be able to( my voice is/has broken)

So if you have any tips for these i would be very grateful.

And i would be very grateful for any help you could give on anything. This will be my first exam and any tips on anything would be helpful.

thx

There are two discussions on sightreading already, some time back - might have useful advice. There was also one on singing in tune but I can't find it. Might have been in the teachers' forum. Have a look around... and good luck with it all!

hi

For the singing part in the aural tests, the examiner usually asks whether you would like to sing it or play it (on the piano). when my sister had her flute exam, she chose the singing option. However she hadn't practised that option in her lessons so she didn't do as well as expected! If you have practised the singing option, why don't you try that instead of singing. If you haven't, i think you're just gonna have to explain to the examiner that your voice has broken! There's nothing about your voice right now, you're just going through an annoying thing called puberty!! mad.gif dry.gif

Good luck with your exam and I hope everything goes well! biggrin.gif
