Just been "chatting" to Jane - she had a bit of a nightmare weekend, ending up in hospital
I offered just to let folks know - she says she is on the mend... but she may be a bit quiet! I'm sure she'll be back soon to tell the whole tale in her inimitable way so I shall just say send her all your best thoughts/prayers/vibes/hugs/whatever her way

& she knows this thread is here so if you want to leave messages she should see 'em

Although maybe not - it might give you a relapse
Hope you're soon better and look forward to hearing all about it

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes. I am feeling quite a bit better now, but still tire quite quickly.
Some of you will have heard my story, but it is a warning to us all. I suffered a DVT on a long car journey down to Cornwall, which moved and the blood clots lodged in my lungs (several clots in both lungs). Fortunately John drove me straight to A & E at Truro as the pain became unbearable and my breathing got difficult otherwise I may not still be here. So DO take breaks on long car journeys, and DO take breaks from sitting at the computer for long periods of time. It's not just long haul plane flights that can cause this. I would have thought I was very low risk for this sort of thing being not overweight and a non-smoker and relatively active (like walking Archie regularly), and therefore I think everyone could be at risk.
I am now on anti-coagulant treatment and the clots are dispersing, however the doc says it will be 6 weeks before I am back to normal (I wonder if he realises that I was never actually normal). I did try the old joke of 'will I be able to play my recorder?' but he saw through it, as well as my attempts to claim that I should not be handling sharp knives and John should be cooking all the meals from now on. Oh well!
Anyway I am unlikely to be back at work before the tail end of May, but am now gradually getting back to a more normal life including catching up on everything here, and walking Archie for a short distance before I get out of steam.

Jane, it was bad enough ending up in hospital with the bleeding uncler on my son's 8th birthday, but what you have gome through sounds much worse.
Get well soon. Keep taking the rat-poison and don't do too much too quickly.

What a scary experience. No you are not the typical person to get a DVT. Another thing you can do on long journeys, is to drink enough water/tea/squash. If you get dehydrated, the blood can thicken a little which doesn't help.
So glad you are on the mend. Enjoy the rest.
