I'm doing my grade 5 oboe in the summer, so I need to know if you have to do repeats.

Do you do repeats with trinity exams?
IrisH - LoonY
Highly doubt it.
lizbun
Maybe you do it when It's meant to be different 1st and 2nd time?(i.e. whan the music sais 2nd volta ...)
sbhoa
The syllabus says pretty much the same as AB.
repeats of more than a few bars should be omitted unless otherwise stated.
D.C. and D.S. should be observed.
pianoboe
Well I don't have to with guitar, I'm sure the oboes the same.

offTopic.gif Anyway, just out of curiosity - why trinity for oboe, not ABRSM? (well, you know, seeing as we are an ABRSM forum) I only do Trinity guitar because you can't do ABRSM classical guitar!

However, in some of the piano pieces, it specifies 'repeats are to be played in the exam' so its worth checking the syllabus for the individual pieces.

Yes, classical guitar grades can be taken through ABRSM, in fact, I've taken a grade in classical guitar with any other exam board.

This doesn't make sense to me...maybe I'm just stupid. Do you mean: 'I haven't taken an exam with any other exam board'?

Oh, well then. I shall have to ask my teacher about it - I've just never seen a syllabus for it or anyone taking a guitar exam on any of my many exam timetables...

I think what Lisa intended to write was that she hasn't taken classical guitar exams with any other exam board - ie she's only done them with the AB.

If you click on this link it will take you directly to the syllabus, which has been around for quite some time - I have a syllabus including the guitar which I was given (because I play the harp, which comes in the same booklet) in 1996.

There was a 'mature' guy taking Grade 3 guitar at my local exam centre before Easter when I was there with some of my pupils. It's been an AB option for ages, just not as popular as some other instruments.

I'm sure the examiners love to get an unusual instrument - one I stewarded for say "Oh, goody, a harp. Haven't had one of those before."

biggrin.gif It must make life more interesting. I'm sure they get an endless stream of early grades pianists!
