Who do you really love to play? Who do you love to listen to?

A while ago, I thought I was fully into 'lute' type guitar music. But recently, I'm falling in love with much later composers.

I think my favourite, both to play and hear, is probably Barrios. I love the way it sounds so simple, so pure, but is so devilish to get under the fingers.

For me, it's got to be JS Bach first. I know he didn't actually write anything for the guitar (and possibly not for the lute either) but he would have done if it had existed!

Others? John Dowland (yes I know he didn't write anything for guitar either, but the lute counts), Barrios for sure, Villa-Lobos of course. If you include transcriptions, Granados and de Falla.

Yes, JS Bach and John Dowland are two of my favourites as well! smile.gif

I like playing Turina, Tarrega, Albeniz, Granados, Llobet, Torroba, Ponce, Mertz, Legnani, Regondi, Bach and others. I'm trying to get a recital programme together just now but it will be a few years yet before I feel happy enough overall to even consider playing to people.

My husband has been learning classical guitar for a year now, he is working from the Pujol Guitar School books and the classic guitar collection vol 1.

It is lovely that he can play several short pieces by aguado and carulli which inspired him to buy some cd's by these composers which are just so nice to relax to, I'm sure as he progresses his tastes will change with him, but it's a good start smile.gif

Who do you love to listen to?

I'm afraid I'm not very loyal to any one composer. A while ago, I was obsessed by Stephen Goss's arrangement of Satie's Gnoissiennes. Now, I love listening to a cd of Latin American composers - Piazzolla, Brouwer and Villa-Lobos. I also enjoy listening to this duo version of Granados' Oriental (link to fabulous music). When motiviation to play is low, I go back to listening to Myers' Cavatina and Portrait. I really could go on and on.....

This is an easy one, I just love to play anything that's arpeggiated, regardless of era and even if I don't actually like the piece itself. I just enjoy zoning out and playing which I can only really do with arpeggiated pieces.

At the minute, I'm really enjoying playing Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Dodgson, Giuliani, Ohana and Barrios. (Ah the joys of putting together a programme. tongue.gif)

It changes frequently according to what I've been playing well/badly that week!!
