I know - I would never have thought about it in the first place. Anyway, where did all the new smileys come from?

Hi IrisH LoonY

Well, no, neither can I really. Either I haven't got anything else better to do or I'm just getting rather old and having too many senior moments..... (possibly both!). Whatever, it was only meant to be a light-hearted comment and no criticism intended. I think the new smilies are wonderful and just love them biggrin.gif smile.gif though I do miss the little guy with the "shades" on.

Here's to the arrival of an oboist sometime or an organist with manic footwork. I think the harp-player is fantastic harp.gif ,- they must be exhausted with all the effort though. Oh no, here I go again worrying about our new little friends. Take me away someone to lie down in a darkened room ...... laugh.gif

Me too!

I also think the harpist rocks - and I knew there was *something* wrong with the flautist but couldn't figure it out.....
Robodoc
I'm not a flautist (obviously) and maybe this is a stupid question, but even if its wrong, difficult and sounds wierd and you can't use the keys . . .

. . . is it actually physically possible to play the flute upside down and left handed - blowing accross the bottom of the hole instead of the top??
sarah-flute
Left handed - yes (if you mean, pointing out to the left side of the body not the right)

Upside-down - as in the embouchure hole pointing down not up? - erm, well yeah I can get a note.

(Never one to resist a challenge to do something silly.........)

OK - I tell a lie - the first video got eaten in the ether, this is the one where I managed not to giggle.

Enjoy. Or something........ unsure.gif

And yes, I probably need to get out more...

Sarah-Flute, did I notice that you had your flute on your shoulder in that video. Tut tut rolleyes.gif

The band are all left handed too. Have to say though, these smilies are fantastic. How do people come up with them and make them work!!
petrat
Back to the little fluter, I think that he is a musicologist who has seen the pictures of early flute players holding their instruments that way and he is trying to see how it alters the sound as he is using a mediaeval keyless flute.

The other weird thing that non-instrumentalist people do - if imitating flute playing - is to have both sets of fingers towards them, rather than the left fingers facing inwards and the right fingers facing outwards.

What IS IT that makes them do that particular action????? unsure.gif Sorry to be a pedant, but I find it really annoying..... ph34r.gif

At least they've got the violinist right(handed) violin.gif although they don't look a very happy violinist unsure.gif ...perhaps it's because they are missing their left arm??? mellow.gif

Yes, I'd noticed that too but I was too busy worrying about the flautist flute.gif , the over-worked harpist, harp.gif the left-handed band rockin.gif ........ can't worry about any more............. laugh.gif laugh.gif Still think they're all just wonderful!
Morgan's Munchkin
I just tried playing my flute the wrong way round (to the left rather than the right), and found that although the keys were harder to press, I could get high notes much easier than normal!!
