Full Version: The Bee Police...

Just nipped into town, and walking along the road saw yellow warning cones and a sign saying "Caution: Bees"

Coming closer, I saw two people in white suits with mesh facemasks, herding many yellow and black insects into what appeared to be a portable apiary... I didn't know we had bee police!

Very sensible considering how some people have extreme reactions, but made me smile all the same - idiosyncratic country, we are...

That's quite un-bee-lieveable Sarah....

Beehive-y thing. Bee equiv of an aviary as far as I know..... maybe it's just called a beehive - dunno.

Aw how cute biggrin.gif *buzz*

Actually, I really don't like bees/wasps - they scare me! But the thought of them is cute biggrin.gif

Some one needs to do a survey of how many threads involve animals round here - there was one about Queen Wasps and hamsters the other night! ph34r.gif

I'm off to avoid some housework.

i read in a newspaper somewhere about the decline in the population of bees over the last couple of years, i think there's now half the amount of bees that there used to be 5 years ago. the people who keep bee hives have said that only half of the hives are occupied.

during the past couple of weeks with the really nice weather we're having, i've been sitting in the garden and noticed that the bees buzzing around are all huge big bumbles, and i have also noticed at least 3 dead ones on my patio (and no, i didn't swat them there tongue.gif )

it concerns me to know about this decline, i don't want the bumble to become endangered sad.gif ......... but it's probably the reason for your bee police sarah smile.gif

Yay, bumblebees biggrin.gif. I'm terrified of wasps but not at all phased by bees, especially bumbles which are very much so non-wasp like. On summer's days if we sit outside, it's not unusual for a bumblebee to land on one of us and clean the excess pollen off themselves for a few minutes smile.gif.

Apparently you can stroke bumblebees and they're really soft....... unsure.gif never quite dared to try it myself though!!

I think bumbles are rather cute but not sure I'd be brave enough to stroke one.......

I read an article about the decline of bees also, and it seemed pretty set on blaming radiation from mobile phones on the decline, I don't see how this would effect bees and how they are the only ones declining in number though wacko.gif

I don't think that mobile phones can be blamed for the decline in the bee population unless the varroa bee mites have them and use them to call eachother to tell them where to strike next! I suspect that the bee police were collecting a swarm and moving them to a safer place.

The radio waves from the phones affect the bees' internal navigation system, so they find it difficult to get back to their hives.
